A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 285

Winifred ordered one of each. By the time she finished her meal, the extra portions would be ready to take home to her family.

The twins loved sweet and sour spare ribs, and Celeste was a huge fan of spicy cold dishes and chicken feet. She had been away in Seaport City for a while, and she knew her family missed her. She hadn't spent much time with them since she got back, and she suspected they were staying up late just waiting for her to come home.

The owner tallied it up. "That'll be $235."

Winifred reached into her bag for her phone, but the familiar chime of a payment notification rang out from the counter speaker.

*Payment received: Two hundred and thirty-five dollars. Thank you for your business!*

She looked up to see Howie slipping his phone back into his pocket. He flashed a wide grin. "I'm Mr. Sutton's assistant. He told me to make sure you were taken care of."

Talk about not judging a book by its cover. The guy looked a bit scruffy and unserious, but he was incredibly sweet and attentive. Winifred felt a rush of warmth. "What should I call you?"

"Howie," he replied, running a hand through his messy blonde hair. "Take your time eating. I'm gonna go check on Mr. Sutton and see if he needs a hand."

"Okay."

He darted out of the restaurant in a flash. Within seconds, her stew and pork belly were set on the table. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the hearty food. Just as she picked up her silverware and reached for a piece of meat, a dark figure practically materialized out of thin air beside her.

"Do you have chicken soup?" a familiar voice asked.

Oh, come on!

Winifred instantly pulled her hand back, pressing her fingers to her forehead to shield her face. It was Holden Lockwood. Again.

She must have committed some unspeakable crime in a past life to be cursed with running into her ex-husband every time she turned around.

The owner greeted Holden with the utmost reverence. She pointed out two massive vats of pre-made chicken soup, explaining they were perfect for post-surgery recovery. Reading the room, the owner grabbed a large ladle to stir the broth for him to inspect.

"This ready-made one is stewed with standard yellow chicken," she explained. "But if that's not to your liking, we have premium, corn-fed free-range chicken. Very nutritious. We can stew one fresh for you."
