A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 287

Holden could casually weave her into a trap without breaking a sweat. Terrified of falling for his tricks, she just wanted to escape.

"Let go of me. I need to go home."

Holden wasn't finished. "Everything I said outside that operating room tonight was just white noise." He looked at her intensely, his words sounding almost like a vow. "When you eventually get pregnant with our child, I'll take a leave of absence to be with you for the entire pregnancy. When you give birth, I'll be right there in the delivery room with you..."

"Stop talking!" Winifred's cheeks burned as she wrenched her face away.

"Three years ago," Holden continued, "when I was trapped in a living nightmare, I knelt at your memorial and made a wish. I promised that if I was ever given a second chance, I would never let you face the storms of life alone again."

"Get away from me!" Winifred cried, tears springing to her eyes.

It felt like a knife twisting in her heart, and she couldn't even tell who was holding the blade. Holden was a bastard, completely complicit in Iris's vicious cruelty. Yet the past was just as unforgiving. It didn't care about human suffering; it was a weapon for bad men to wield. Look at him—casually dragging up a piece of their history just to plunge her back into hell, making her bleed all over again.

She couldn't stand being near him for another second. If he didn't let go, she was ready to drop her food and physically fight him.

Holden pulled a card from his pocket and shoved it into her coat. "When we divorced, I gave you a hundred million. You left the card in your suitcase. I had a new one made. I've been carrying it around for a while. Take it. Spend it on whatever you want. But keep making a fuss. Keep doing your job, keep provoking us, and make it loud. Alright, go on. Be safe on your way home."

"You're a maniac!" Winifred pulled the bank card out and hurled it at his face.

His words sounded utterly deranged. She had tried to run, and he chased her down just to give her money. During the scuffle, Holden's container of chicken soup slipped from his grasp and hit the ground.

Instead of checking on the soup, he picked up the card and tried to force it on her again.

Winifred jumped up, swatted the card from his hand, and watched it land straight into the open takeout container. Half the soup was gone, leaving the plastic card floating in a puddle of greasy yellow broth.

Without another word, she turned and sprinted away.
