Holly stepped right in and stood by the massive black bed. "Mr. Huxley, Quinn is back."
No response.
Holly strained her ears and heard a soft, rhythmic snoring. He was dead to the world. Should she try harder to wake him?
She had been called in last minute for overtime, only to discover a fragile, pregnant woman had moved in and needed constant catering. Holly had spent the evening cooking, cleaning, and even washing and massaging Rhea’s hair. Eavesdropping on their conversations, she pieced together the drama: Rhea was his first love, unhappily divorced, and had come running back to him. Huxley and Quinn had a massive blowout over it, and Quinn hadn't come home all night.
Holly was genuinely worried. Quinn was the type to come straight home from the hospital every single day. She never stayed out. Rhea had even made a passive-aggressive comment about being "afraid Quinn would think she was the other woman and try to hurt her." Holly feared Quinn would feel pushed out of her own home.
Thank God she was back!
Huxley needed to wake up and grovel. Holly had been around the block, and of all the women she had seen, Quinn was by far her favorite. She was gorgeous, gentle, and incredibly considerate. She was completely devoted to Huxley, endlessly patient with his volatile moods, and provided him with a level of emotional support he desperately needed. He couldn't afford to lose her.
Mustering her courage, Holly patted his shoulder. "Mr. Huxley, Quinn is here. Please, wake up and go see her."
Still nothing.
Huxley's face remained buried in his pillow. Holly threw a desperate glance toward the hallway. Rhea was right next door.
"Mr. Huxley, Rhea’s stomach hurts!"
The lump under the white duvet shot up like a rocket. Huxley threw off the covers, ready to leap out of bed.
Holly grabbed his arm to steady him. "I couldn't wake you up, so I panicked and misspoke! It's actually Quinn. She's back. Please go talk to her."
Huxley’s face darkened with rage. "Excuse me? Who do you think you are?"
Holly’s eyes filled with tears. "I’m saying this for your own good! Quinn adores you. Don’t fight with her. You need to appreciate what you have."
