A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 294

With so many people in the house, Winifred decided to use the formal dining room. Five adults and two toddlers gathered around the massive circular table.

Declan was absolutely smitten with Annelise. He couldn't take his eyes off her.

"Annie’s hair is gorgeous. So curly and shiny... She looks like a custom-made porcelain doll."

Annelise touched the little crown pinned in her hair, beaming. "My Mr. Leland gave this to me for my birthday!"

"It's very beautiful," Declan smiled.

"He's getting me a real diamond one, too! He said it’ll be ready in a couple of weeks."

"Well, you'll have to let me know when it arrives so I can see you all dressed up," Declan chuckled.

But Annelise hesitated. Her big eyes darted toward Winifred. Ever since her mom came back from Seaport City, she had completely stopped talking about Mr. Leland, and he hadn't called them once. Even at her age, Annelise sensed something was wrong.

Quinn smoothly placed a piece of pan-fried croaker into Declan’s bowl. "You must be starving. Eat up."

"Yes, ma'am. Whatever my future wife says," Declan teased, happily taking a bite.

Quinn lowered her voice, her tone turning serious. "Winifred's kids are precious, but there are a lot of bad people out there who might target them. You absolutely cannot go around bragging about how smart Seth is or how pretty Annie is. Do you understand?"

Declan nodded soberly. "Got it. The world is full of creeps. We have to protect our own."

Quinn exchanged a knowing look with Winifred. They had always been incredibly careful about the children's privacy.

At four in the afternoon, Quinn and Declan headed out.
