"Understood."
Huxley dragged a hand down his face, genuinely exasperated.
"Quinn, I highly suggest you calm down. I didn't kick you out, and I didn't cheat on you. You're throwing a massive tantrum over pure jealousy, and it's pathetic."
"..."
She didn't even respond. His perfectly obedient pet was suddenly staging a rebellion, and it was infuriating.
He decided to call her bluff. "I know exactly who you are. Give it three days. Three days, max, and you'll be back here crying and begging me to take you back. But let me make this very clear—there are no second chances with me."
Quinn continued packing in silence.
Feeling thoroughly insulted, Huxley turned his back to her and closed his eyes.
Holly the maid bravely poked her head back into the room. "Mr. Huxley! Please, get up and ask her to stay!"
"She wants to leave," he snapped. "Why should I stop her?"
"Sir..."
"Get out!"
Holly trembled. "Then... at least help her pack."
Huxley’s ears twitched. "Why the hell should I pack her things?"
"You're a strong man. It would make things easier for her." Holly figured that even if he wouldn't apologize, showing a little basic decency might leave a good impression, making a future reconciliation easier.
But Huxley didn't move a muscle.
"She can do it herself. She shouldn't rely on me."
Holly’s face scrunched in distress. Quinn was almost done.
"Then at least sit with her."
"There's no need," he replied coldly.
No need? The woman who loved him was walking out of his life! Judging by the dead look in Quinn’s eyes, she was never coming back.
Holly tried one last, desperate plea. "Quinn doesn't have any family here in Kingsbridge. It's freezing outside. Just get up and keep her company for a minute. She's so alone."
"She's a grown adult!" Huxley shouted, thoroughly annoyed. "She needs to stop projecting all her hopes onto me. People need to be independent and have a little backbone!"
"I've spoiled her for years. She forgot her place and thought she could throw a tantrum to get her way."
Quinn’s voice cut through the air, cool and detached. "Then please step aside so I can go throw my tantrum somewhere else."
Huxley stepped aside.
Quinn hoisted her suitcase and walked briskly down the stairs.
"Is she... really not coming back?" Rhea asked delicately.
"She'll be back," Huxley muttered, staring at Quinn's retreating figure.
Rhea looked visibly crestfallen. "You should... you should go after her. Explain that you're just taking pity on me. I don't want her to misunderstand."
Huxley's eyes darkened as he watched Quinn reach the front door. "There's no point."
"I feel terrible. I drove her away," Rhea sobbed.
Huxley immediately turned his attention back to her. "Don't blame yourself. This is entirely on Quinn."
Outside, the moment Quinn stepped through the gates, the man who had been waiting for her leaped out of his car and sprinted toward her.
