A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 298

7:00 AM.

The atmosphere at the dining table was toxic. The entire Adams family sat around looking miserable, as if the person who cooked the food owed them millions.

Grandma Eleanor was practically vibrating with rage.

Six-year-old Demi glared at her. "Grandma, you're really making us eat this for breakfast?"

That was the spark Eleanor needed. "What's wrong with it?!"

Demi banged her spoon against her bowl. "I hate leftover fried rice!"

"Yesterday morning I made fresh noodles and you didn't eat those either!" Eleanor shrieked. "You threw a whole bowl in the trash! Do you know how much food you waste?"

"I like chicken and sausage noodles! But you just poured last night’s leftover soup over plain pasta. It was gross."

Eleanor was livid. "You little brat! You live under your Uncle Quentin’s roof, eating our food for free, and you dare complain? If you don't want to eat, then get out!"

"Waaah!" Demi burst into tears, burying her face into her older sister Larissa's shoulder.

Larissa hadn't touched her plate of leftover fried rice either. Furious, she wrapped her arms around her sister.

"She's only six! You don't have to scream at her. Look, you terrified her."

Eleanor immediately redirected her wrath. "Oh, and you're so mature? You're almost as tall as me, yet you were up until 3 AM on your phone! Now you're sitting here with swollen eyes, picking at your food. And then you go to school, sleep on your desk, and let your grades tank. Your teachers call me every single day!"

The verbal assault was relentless. Larissa couldn't handle it alone. She immediately looked across the table at Shelly.

Shelly was the only one who truly understood them. She was the one who had bought them their smartphones and tablets.

Back when Winifred ran the house with an iron fist, Larissa had begged for a phone and been shut down. When Shelly heard about it, she played the sympathetic friend, using her own money and having Quentin bring the devices home for them. But Winifred, being the awful control freak she was, had still restricted their screen time, only allowing them an hour on weekends after their homework was done.

Larissa had complained to Shelly about it. And what had Shelly said?

"Kids spend all day trapped in a boring classroom. When they come home, having a parent constantly hovering and saying 'no' to everything just suffocates them. As long as your homework is done, there's absolutely nothing wrong with playing on your phone."
