It wasn't until a few days later that Iris finally answered Shelly's call personally.
She had just been released from the holding cell.
After a week of surviving on dismal cabbage and potato stew, Iris was deeply questioning her life choices and the world at large.
Shelly's revenge plan suited her perfectly.
However, she still had her reservations.
"Winifred's two children aren't Holden's. They were born on September 30th, which completely contradicts the timeline of when Winifred and Holden separated."
Shelly was resolute, fueled by pure agony. "I don't care about any of that. We just need to stir up a massive scandal. If my life is ruined, Winifred doesn't get to live happily ever after."
Iris gritted her teeth. "Agreed. That bitch is beyond detestable. Ever since I met her, my life has been one disaster after another. First, she stole my fiancé. Then she injured me, causing brain trauma that triggers my seizures. She hid like a coward for three years, and she is still just as vicious. You've seen it with your own eyes these past few days. The sheer amount of damage Winifred has caused me is terrifying."
Shelly's voice pitched higher. "She completely destroyed me, too!"
"Exactly! And you're pregnant! Winifred is absolutely soulless to actually seduce a pregnant woman's husband."
Shelly began to cry again. "Because of her, Quentin doesn't even look at me. He lied to me, humiliated me, ruined my family financially, and now his whole family is united in tormenting me just so they can bring her back."
Winifred had destroyed them. With absolutely no conscience, she had ruined their lives.
After locking in the details of their revenge, Iris immediately called Madeleine.
Shelly was plotting something massive, and Iris needed someone calculating to help her fine-tune the execution.
Madeleine's voice was hoarse when she answered. "Iris, you're out?"
Madeleine sounded highly skeptical. "Leland? How on earth could a man like him be interested in someone like Winifred?"
When they had returned to Seaport City for the engagement ceremony, they had literally laughed in Winifred's face, mocking her because no one was coming to save her and she would rot in a cell. A man with Leland's power and status—Winifred wasn't even fit to shine his shoes.
Iris was so stressed she smacked her hand against the coffee table. "She gave birth to twins, and she's claiming they're his! Anyone with eyes can see the boy and girl are gorgeous."
"That's impossible!" Madeleine practically yelled.
She knew exactly how intensely Winifred loved Holden. Back then, Madeleine's hired thugs had locked Winifred in a dark room. With no food or water for twenty-one days, the girl had still fiercely refused to sign the divorce papers. In the end, it was only when the news of Holden's engagement to Iris leaked—proving that Holden had actively chosen someone else—that she was finally broken enough to leave.
A woman like that, whose entire universe revolved around Holden, couldn't possibly move on to another man.
Iris let out a cold, sharp laugh. "It's the truth. The twins were born on September 30th; the birth certificates are ironclad. And let me tell you something else—if you look closely at Winifred's son, his bone structure is a dead ringer for his grandfather's. He clearly inherited the family looks. It is undeniably Lockwood blood."
