Quentin retorted without an ounce of mercy. "What kind of nonsense are you spouting? I'm not even home. How is everyone ganging up on you?"
"You bastard!" Shelly screamed, practically jumping up and down in the middle of her bedroom, completely unhinged.
Quentin's voice hardened with blame. "With a temper like yours, it's only my family that gets bullied by you. My mother is in her fifties, she's worked hard her entire life, and now in her old age, she has to deal with you pointing fingers and screaming in her face. You are pregnant, throwing massive tantrums over nothing. You are letting down your in-laws and the child in your own belly. Take a good, hard look in the mirror."
She was the victim! How the hell had she become the villain terrorizing the Adams family?
Shelly felt like the floor had completely dropped out from beneath her. Her entire worldview shattered.
"Quentin, I would rather die than look at your face again. Return my parents' and my brother's property deeds right now. I'm going to get an abortion, and we are done!"
She broke down into loud, ugly sobs.
Quentin replied with a cold, impatient edge. "The deeds were used as collateral for the loan."
The funds had already hit the account and had been entirely funneled into Iris-Adams Biopharma. Until the bank loan was paid off in full, there was absolutely no way to get those deeds back.
The sheer humiliation of being used and then tossed aside washed over her.
"You lied to me! You absolute scumbag!" she shrieked.
But he just fired back, "What exactly did I lie to you about?"
"You tricked me out of my parents' deeds! You tricked me out of my brother's deed! And you even scammed my parents out of their hard-earned three hundred thousand dollars in retirement savings! That is blood money my dad saved by getting up at three in the morning to haul produce, and my mom saved by working at the market from dawn until dusk, weighing vegetables pound by miserable pound!"
"Your brother's house was bought with my funding," Quentin stated coldly. "I transferred over two million to you, and I have the bank receipts to prove it. As for your parents' house, if you want me to return the deeds, fine. First, return every single asset you took from me, and I'll gladly hand them over. I have the credit card statements and transfer records for every penny I spent on you. If you want your parents' house back, you better be prepared. Once you subtract what I spent on you, you'll still owe me compensation."
Bastard! Scumbag! Go to hell!
Shelly aggressively jabbed her screen, hanging up the call.
Thinking back on it now, in the few days right before the loan went through, Quentin had been exceptionally affectionate. She should have been vigilant. But she hadn't been. She had actually been thrilled, foolishly believing their relationship had finally returned to its passionate honeymoon phase.
Those few nights, he came straight home after work, made love to her every night, and murmured about how much he missed her and loved her. It was all a calculated performance to numb her mind, tricking her into falling so deeply that he could use her.
She was an idiot. For a few sweet words and some romance, she had completely destroyed herself and her family.
Her sorrow was boundless. The tears poured out of her, submerging her in the bitter consequences of her own actions.
By the time she finally regained her senses, it was already the next day.
She had only one thought left: Revenge.
Dragging herself out of bed, she grabbed her phone and immediately dialed Iris Morgan.
