The words had barely left her mouth, and the mocking smirk was still plastered across her face, when a massive shadow fell over her, completely blocking out the overhead light.
Plunged into sudden darkness, Iris's heart leaped into her throat. She slowly turned around.
"You've got a death wish, don't you?" Leland stood behind her, imposing and immovable as a mountain.
Iris jumped in sheer terror, instinctively pressing a finger to her lips and holding her breath.
*What did I just say?*
Before she realized Leland was there, what exactly had she said to Winifred? A wave of profound humiliation burned across her cheeks. Tonight, she had truly dug her own grave.
She was about to turn and bolt, but Leland's icy voice nailed her to the floor. "Stirring up trouble with my sister-in-law, setting traps for Winifred... Iris, is your brain entirely filled with mush? I am standing right behind Winifred. If you make a move against her, I will crush you."
He leaned in slightly, his tone lethal. "The fact that you haven't realized Winifred is mine and entirely off-limits means you're too stupid to be running a business. Starting that company was just digging your own grave. By next month, Iris-Adams Biopharma will be dead and buried!"
Iris's terror rapidly morphed into furious indignation. "You're full of it!"
She had a brilliant business strategist for a husband. With Holden protecting her, they were invincible.
"Next month, Iris-Adams Biopharma will launch a revolutionary new drug and dominate the industry! When that happens, your little High Ridge Pharma will be begging for scraps at our feet!"
Leland stared at her with pure disgust. "Short-sighted, arrogant, and vulgar. You're never going to revolutionize anything, but you're certainly a natural at playing the clown."
"You... you're horrible!" she shrieked, practically steaming from the ears. How dare Leland humiliate her like this? She was a universally beloved star, the Reality Show Goddess, and Holden's fiancée! Leland was blind and insane!
Right in front of her furious eyes, Leland effortlessly scooped Winifred up into his arms. Refusing to let her walk another step, he carried her away from the radiology department, treating her like royalty.
