Holden looked like he was losing his mind. His face twisted into a bizarre expression, caught somewhere between a grimace and a deranged laugh.
"How pathetic for me. Your mother hates me and wants me dead, and you hate me and want me dead."
"Holden Lockwood!" Seth brandished his little fist. "When I'm as tall as you, I'll pierce right through your chest!"
*Good lord.*
Holden bared his teeth. "This absolute ruthlessness... honestly, it reminds me of myself when I was a kid. We actually have a lot in—"
"Shut up!" Seth interrupted fiercely. "I'm Leland's son! I'm like him!"
Holden's face darkened instantly. He shifted his glare back to Winifred.
"This isn't over. I'll be waiting for that paternity test. When the results are out, you'd better call me yourself so I can properly humiliate your son and get my revenge."
Clutching his injured behind, he turned and limped away. Winifred stared at his retreating figure; a small dark stain had spread across his black trousers. The pain must have been intense because he was walking awkwardly, his legs bowed out.
Winifred shuddered, her heart racing. "Seth, hurting people is wrong. You can never, ever do something like this again, do you understand?"
Seth narrowed his eyes at Holden's retreating back. "If he ever bullies you again, I'll end him. Just wait and see!"
The incident weighed heavily on Winifred's mind. When Leland rushed over after hearing what happened, she sat in a rocking chair, slowly pouring out the entire story to him.
Leland, surprisingly, wasn't worried about Seth developing violent tendencies. In his view, if a scumbag like Holden died, he died. The man was so vile that his very existence was a sin. Instead, Leland's eyes were entirely focused on her severely swollen foot.
Feeling self-conscious, Winifred instinctively tucked her foot under her skirt. "I'm fine. You should be thinking about how to deal with your sister-in-law. She demanded a paternity test in front of the entire family today."
Winifred shot up from the bench, ignoring the pain, and pointed right back at Iris's forehead. "My son is a good boy. If you insult him again, I will slap you!"
Iris blinked and quickly took a step back. "I'm not going to lower myself to argue with an uncultured orphan."
She had been on the receiving end of Winifred's slaps before, and she knew Winifred didn't bluff.
*Hah!*
Iris immediately aimed for Winifred's weak spot, sneering. "The main Lockwood family demanded a paternity test, didn't they? Look at you, making a complete mess of yourself today, terrified out of your mind."
She glanced around with a mocking smile. Winifred's ankle was swollen to the size of a grapefruit, and she was sitting there entirely alone.
"Where's your precious Leland? Why isn't he here at the hospital with you? Hmm? Did you get dumped again?"
