A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 398

"Daddy, hurry up!"

"Excuse me, coming through."

Hearing Leland's voice, Holden instinctively turned his head. As he did, his ear brushed against something small, warm, and distinctly fleshy.

He processed the sensation. It was a tiny hand. Seth's hand.

Seth had reached out to pull Leland inside.

It was unimaginable. This child, who had always been so cold, arrogant, and vicious toward him, could actually be gentle and considerate.

"Oh, Mr. Lockwood," the bodyguard said, visibly surprised.

"Hello," Leland replied effortlessly.

The bodyguard leaned down, his heavy breath tickling Holden's ear. "It's Leland Lockwood. From the Kingsbridge branch. Should we—"

"Let him pass," Holden commanded rigidly.

The bodyguard pulled the wheelchair back.

Leland's amused chuckle filled the space. "Holden? Did you... have surgery?"

Seth didn't miss a beat. "He's blind."

The elevator doors rattled shut, carrying the passengers upward.

Left behind in the lobby, the people who hadn't managed to squeeze in started murmuring.

"What a sweet little boy. He's so young, but he already knows how to take care of his dad."

"That man is so lucky. That's a kid who's going to pay him back in spades."

Suddenly, someone clapped Holden on the shoulder. "How'd you lose your sight, buddy? You look way too young for that."

"Don't touch me!" Holden snapped, his knuckles turning white on the armrests.

The man clicked his tongue. "Are you married?"

"Mind your own business!" the bodyguard barked.

The man backed off, but it just opened the floodgates for the rest of the lobby to start gossiping loudly.

"Going blind is brutal when you get old. You absolutely need a good son to take care of you."

"And not just any son, a good one. Otherwise, you're screwed. There's a guy in my neighborhood, kid is twenty-six, doesn't work, doesn't date. Sleeps all day and games all night. The dad has cataracts with 20/100 vision, and he's out there collecting scrap metal just to feed the deadbeat."

"Exactly. Not everyone gets lucky with their kids."
