A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 44

Nearby, Holden called out, "Even at a time like this, you're still thinking of the person who hurt you."

Iris looked embarrassed.

"Sorry, Winifred, love is selfish. Holden and I can only... wish you well, and hope you find your own happiness."

The two unlocked the door and walked out.

Winifred sat quietly, looking at the sky out the window.

Her phone vibrated in her small bag, and she pulled it out.

It was Quentin Adams.

[Hello! Winifred~]

Perhaps he had been frightened by the talk of splitting up the business last night.

His tone today was very gentle, calling her name with a playful squiggle.

[What's up?]

Quentin: [Where are you?]

She wasn't going to say she was at the Sutton family estate, working a part-time job that paid millions a year.

Ever since following Quentin up north and sensing his "disdain" for her, she had been paving a way out for her children every single day.

Initially, getting the invitation to treat Nelly was thanks to the caregiver who attended to the old lady. The caregiver did a lot of heavy lifting and suffered from back and leg pain. Hearing from a friend that Dr. Shultz at the Adams Wellness Clinic gave excellent holistic treatments, she went a few times. It really was effective, so she got Winifred's contact info.

Because of this, Winifred secured a service contract with the Sutton family privately, working overtime on holidays and evenings.

She had already used two years of her part-time salary to buy a three-story townhouse.

The front yard of the townhouse was designed as a mini-playground for the kids, complete with a small slide.

The backyard had a small pond in the center of the garden, where they could grow flowers, plant vegetables, and keep chickens.

The new house was already fully renovated.

She gave Quentin a brief reply: [Today is Saturday. I worked overtime this morning, and came out for my part-time job this afternoon, at a cancer patient's home.]

Quentin: [You're working hard.]

[It's what I have to do.]

Of course Quentin knew she had to work her fingers to the bone.

He also liked that she hustled.

[Winifred, I'm giving you some time off. You should get a good rest.]

She knew perfectly well he had been threatened by Holden and Iris to kick her out of the clinic.

She had lost her job and was being forced into unemployment.

Yet she still feigned gratitude.

She thanked him obediently.

[Thank you, Quentin. You're so good to me.]

Quentin: [As long as you're not mad at me. Come home early when you're done.]

[Okay.]

She put her phone away and straightened up her exclusive health consultant uniform.

She was wearing a fitted skirt made of pearl-white satin, perfectly showcasing the extraordinary professionalism and noble elegance of a wealthy family's staff.

She walked back toward Nelly. From a distance, she saw Iris leaning into the old lady's embrace. The woman's eyes were red and wet, her red lips moving as she recounted something.

When Nelly saw her, her expression changed, and she demanded with a dark face, "Dr. Shultz, did you upset my Iris?"
