A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 45

"Dr. Shultz is wonderful. Don't blame her, Mrs. Sutton."

Iris's reddened eyes welled with tears, making Nelly frown.

"Sweetheart, you're saying you weren't bullied, yet you're crying."

"I really wasn't, Mrs. Sutton. Please don't say any more."

Nelly sighed. Guests were arriving one after another, so it wasn't convenient to say too much in public.

Not far away, Kian Jennings and Preston York were walking the red carpet together, looking sharp and energetic, accompanied by Holden.

Iris lifted her head from Nelly's embrace. "Mrs. Sutton, I'm going to go mingle for a bit. I'll come back and keep you company later."

"Alright," the old lady patted her hand. "Sweetheart, don't dwell on it. It breaks my heart to see you feeling wronged and upset."

"I know, Mrs. Sutton."

Winifred kept an eye on Iris's movements; she was heading toward her mother. No doubt the mother and daughter were going to have a deep discussion.

Winifred didn't have much energy to look into it, as Kian and his friends had arrived in front of Nelly.

"Hello, Mrs. Sutton! Hello, Mr. Sutton! Congratulations on the big day! Wishing you long life, happiness, and health!"

"Thanks."

Nelly had been resting at home due to illness for over two years. It was rare for her to see so many vibrant young people all at once, and she was thrilled.

She helped Kian up and gave him a hug. As they touched, she said in pleasant surprise, "Oh! Handsome, you smell like herbal medicine."

Before Kian replied, he first looked toward Winifred, giving her a cold, mocking glare.

He engaged in a silent battle of glares with Winifred with an air of unbearable arrogance before saying, "You have a great nose, Mrs. Sutton, you smelled it right away."

"Of course, I deal with natural medicine every single day."

Kian began to brag, "I sprained my arm yesterday and applied a herbal spray."

"You got hurt? Is it serious?"

"It's better now. The medicine worked like magic."

"Where did you go? The doctor must be amazing."

"The Adams Wellness Clinic, a private practice run by a medical doctor. His skills are incredible; the place is packed every day."

"Oh."

Nelly also glanced at Winifred.

At this moment, Iris was broadcasting to her mother exactly how Holden had doted on her.

She didn't leave out a single detail, telling Beatrice everything.

Beatrice nodded. "Mom was right. Winifred is already out of the picture. Holden loves you now; you are the only one in his heart."

Iris finally felt relieved.

"Mom, you didn't see how pathetic Winifred looked when Holden ordered her to apologize to me."

Beatrice smiled. "Mom has been around the block; I can picture it. Men are ruthless creatures. Once they stop loving someone, making them apologize is nothing. Some even raise a hand against their ex-wives or want them dead."

Want their ex-wives dead?

Destroy the ex-wife, spoil her?

Thinking about it carefully...

You know, it really was like that.

Holden had ruined Winifred's job, getting her kicked out of the Adams Wellness Clinic.

Making her unemployed, with no way to make a living and no Quentin to rely on, was practically digging her grave.
