"Oh!"
"Wonderful!"
Nelly was deeply moved by Holden's filial respect.
Her wrinkled face regained its pleasant color.
"How about this? We'll keep Dr. Shultz for now. She has been treating me long-term and knows my condition well. Her service contract only has three months left anyway. Over these three months, you can help me interview doctors. I'll pick a good one, and as soon as Dr. Shultz's contract expires, I'll let her go immediately."
Holden and Iris were joined at the hip.
She had promised multiple times to introduce Winifred's boss—Dr. Adams.
Nelly naturally believed Holden could find a doctor better than Winifred.
Firing Winifred and bringing in a more capable talent—she was handing that task over to Holden.
Having been sent away, Winifred followed orders and went to the restroom to wash her face.
She needed to calm down.
She slammed a fist against the sink. She had been too weak today, actually letting tears fall.
Those people who knew her past were laughing at her to the heavens, grinding her pride into the dirt.
Just then, a whole line of people crowded into the restroom entrance.
She raised her eyes and looked in the mirror.
The mirror reflected the figures of Holden's little family of three.
"You again! I don't like you!" Jordyn recognized Winifred by her distinctive uniform.
The good thing was, Seth and Annelise had only been in kindergarten for a month.
Moreover, Winifred deliberately avoided the kids' drop-offs; Celeste and Jayce handled it.
Jordyn wasn't familiar with the siblings' family background yet.
She didn't know this woman was Seth's mother.
Being screamed at by a bratty little tyrant naturally made Winifred uncomfortable.
But she didn't want to tangle with Holden anymore.
Without a word, she turned and stepped aside, leaving all the sinks for them to use.
She lowered her eyes and walked close to the wall.
Holden's face hardened, "I told you, anyone who hurts you will pay the price."
Winifred laughed out of pure absurdity. "Holden, just because I refused to let people walk all over me and smacked Iris's phone away, you want to destroy me completely?"
"Winifred, whatever I do, I use my power and influence. If you're not happy about it, you can bring out your own power and influence to fix it."
A deep sorrow washed over Winifred.
The memories buried at the bottom of the river burst out of the gates of hell and rushed toward her.
She demanded, "By your logic, let me ask you: Iris conspired against me and wanted me dead. What price should she pay?"
"That's enough!" Holden gritted his teeth.
The next second.
His face filled with rage.
"After all these years, you still show no remorse. You repeatedly hurt Iris, and even now, you bully her and slander her."
"You are the executioner, and Iris is the victim."
"Iris is pure and innocent. Do not ever mention the word 'price' in front of her!"
