"Sigh! It's such a shame I have this condition. Every time I see Iris treating me so well, I can't help but wonder how much time I have left. Will I even be here the next time she visits the Suttons?"
The nanny replied, "Don't be sad, Mrs. Sutton. Ms. Morgan said she's going to introduce you to Dr. Adams. With a brilliant doctor like Quentin taking care of you, you'll definitely get better."
Nelly seemed to remember something and reached her hand out. The nanny held it. Nelly looked up, her mouth open to speak. But the moment her eyes met Winifred's, her face darkened, she snatched her hand back, and went completely silent.
Winifred perfectly understood the older woman's feelings. You could always find another doctor, and if she fired Winifred, she could easily hire a better one. Iris and Holden were pushing hard for that. But there was only one Iris Morgan—the girl who knew exactly how to win her favor. Iris was a massive star; most people begged just for a glance from her. Yet, a VIP like her was so respectful, caring, and attentive to Nelly. It gave the old lady an immense sense of pride and glory. When weighing the two, the scales tipped entirely to one side.
Just then, Sylvia Lockwood—the matriarch of the main Kingsbridge Lockwood family—rushed toward the banquet exit, trailed by a group of staff. Nelly quickly called out, "Sylvia, what's wrong?"
Sylvia stopped. "Oh! Nelly, you haven't left yet?"
"It's my granddaughter's wedding. I'm trying to hold out a little longer."
The Kingsbridge Lockwoods were the ultimate elite. People referred to them as the main Lockwood family. Holden's family in Seaport City was just a branch. The main family was the wealthiest in the nation. The Seaport City branch dominated their local area, but on the national wealth index, they only ranked 38th.
Sylvia's eyes lit up as she looked at Winifred. "Nelly, could I borrow your wellness practitioner? My grandson in the east wing has a high fever, and the family doctor can't get it under control. We went to the hospital today, and the east wing just informed me they want to do a spinal tap to rule out meningitis. I'm worried sick!"
Nelly was already annoyed with Winifred today. Having her around ruined her mood. Since the main Lockwood family needed her, Nelly was more than happy to push her out the door. "Of course you can. Take her right now."
"Let me help you, Leland."
"That won't be necessary, Ms. Goldsmith. I have my own two hands."
Because Sylvia stopped when she saw Leland halt, Winifred stopped as well, standing beside the older woman, quietly observing the scene. When the man saw her, a gentle smile graced his face.
"Dr. Shultz? It's you."
