A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 70

Terrifying.

Holden turned to open the door, fully intending to get in with Iris still practically glued to his back.

With a sudden burst of speed, Celeste launched a vicious kick right into the back of Holden's knees.

His tall frame buckled instantly. He pitched forward, his handsome face slamming right into the car window, his stomach hitting the door frame as his knees bent in an awkward, half-kneeling position against the vehicle.

"Hey! Why are you hitting people—"

SMACK!!

A vicious slap sent Iris's mask flying.

SMACK!!

Celeste didn't miss a beat, delivering a second, equally brutal slap to the other cheek.

Whatever Iris had been about to say got stuck in her throat, reducing her to choked, gurgling noises.

Holden scrambled to recover and play the hero. "Iris! Are you alright?!"

Iris grabbed his dark shirt frantically. "Holden... call the police... hurry!"

Holden yanked out his phone.

Catching him off guard, Celeste swung a heavy kick squarely into the right side of his face. The force sent him stumbling backward several feet, phone flying from his hand.

"Ah! Holden!" Iris shrieked, rushing over in tears.

Well, now they were matching.

The right side of Holden's face was bright red and swelling rapidly.

The left side of Iris's face bore a vivid, five-finger handprint.

"Hehe! Handsome, did you like that? Want another taste of my foot?" Celeste cackled, her lipstick-stained teeth flashing wildly.

"Get away from us!!"

Iris was terrified, but she didn't dare make a massive scene, afraid of drawing a crowd.

She was a celebrity. If someone filmed her and her boyfriend getting beaten up in the street by a lunatic, it would completely ruin her glamorous image.

The headlines alone would dominate trending topics for days, opening her up to endless mockery from internet trolls.

Just then, the elderly scavenger came tearing down the sidewalk, cursing everyone and their mothers, his arms and legs flailing as he charged straight at Celeste and grabbed her arm.

"You crazy witch! You stole my trash!"

"Give it back right now!"

"I am not letting this go!"

"She's clearly unstable. As long as she didn't cause major property damage, the police aren't going to do anything to her."

"Then you find someone," Iris demanded. "Check the security cameras around here, figure out where this lunatic hangs out, and find a quiet place to teach her a lesson."

"Fine."

But Iris was still pouting.

"We were supposed to go to the designer's studio today to pick out an engagement dress. I can't go anywhere looking like this."

Holden executed a sharp U-turn.

"I'll just have the designer bring the collection to the house on another day so you can choose."

"Really?"

She wasn't excited about the designer house call; she was thrilled that Holden was indulging her every whim.

"Yes. I'll arrange it. You only get the best."

The car sped toward Auburn Avenue.

Iris's mood brightened considerably. "Aren't we going home? Where are you taking me?"
