One receptionist was on the phone, another was busy brewing a fresh cup of coffee for Winifred, the third was arranging a bouquet of flowers, and the fourth stood at attention, acting as if she were waiting for an inspection.
It was highly unusual for a massive celebrity to walk in and be completely ignored.
As Iris waited for the elevator, she glanced back toward the front desk.
She gasped. "Wait... is that Winifred?"
Winifred wasn't standing far away and heard the sharp intake of breath. Her eyes met theirs.
Beneath her flawless makeup, Iris's face instantly twisted with jealousy. She finally understood why the receptionists hadn't swarmed her for autographs—a woman far more breathtaking was standing right there, stealing every ounce of attention.
The three men, however, had entirely different reactions. They were absolutely mesmerized.
Preston’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head. "Holy shit. I hate to say it, but that manipulative witch is stunning. My heart literally skipped a beat."
Kian dragged his gaze away and shot Holden a heavy, warning look. He couldn't let Holden be seduced by this woman's beauty. Holden belonged to Iris.
"Hmph! She really hasn't given up on her delusional obsession with you, Holden," Kian sneered. "Wherever you are, she appears. She clearly bled her bank account dry to ambush you at Lockwood Group. That dress alone must have cost a fortune."
From where he stood, Winifred's pearl-white, one-shoulder tailored dress clung to her curves flawlessly. The luxurious fabric made her look like old money, and combined with her naturally exquisite features, she looked utterly untouchable. Like she was out of everyone's league.
"It's Delacroix Couture," Iris whispered, her voice tight. "A five-thousand-dollar dress from their new collection. I watched the runway show last night."
Kian scoffed in disgust. "An unemployed single mother bankrupting herself just for a dress. Is she planning to starve to death just to get Holden's attention?"
They stood there waiting for the standard elevator, which took ages.
Suddenly, the doors to the private executive elevator slid open.
Leland Lockwood stepped out.
His eyes locked with Winifred's, overflowing with undeniable warmth. He smirked. "I appreciate the offer, Miss Morgan, but I'm already taken."
With a broad shoulder, he shoved past Kian, who was blocking his way.
Startled, Iris reached out. "Wait—"
"Excuse me," Leland said coolly.
Under their wide-eyed stares, he strode past them with commanding authority, making a beeline straight for Winifred.
The receptionist who had been arranging the flowers quickly stepped aside.
Leland plucked a single, perfect red rose from the vase and held it out to Winifred. "Are you trying to kill me with how beautiful you look today, Dr. Shultz?"
