"Good morning, Mr. Lockwood! I'm Lyndon Morgan's youngest daughter from Seaport City, and the sister of Owen Morgan, the newest son-in-law of the Sutton Family. We actually crossed paths last year at a charity gala where you were the guest of honor!"
Alistair’s eyes remained flat. He said nothing.
Finally, his gaze landed on Holden. His dark eyes narrowed slightly. "And you are?"
Holden straightened up. "Holden Lockwood, son of Roland Lockwood. From Seaport City."
Alistair was aware of the Seaport City branch of the family. He stared at Holden for a moment before asking, "And your mother's name is?"
"Madeleine."
Alistair withdrew his gaze without another word.
Kian, sensing an opening, hurried to the elevator to escort Alistair and do some networking. "Holden's mother is still in Seaport City. Her health hasn't been great, so she missed the Sutton wedding. But Holden is shifting his business to Kingsbridge. Once he's settled, his mother will join him. We'd love to host a dinner for you when she arrives, sir."
"No need," Alistair replied coldly before the doors closed.
Kian walked back, slinging an arm around Holden's shoulder, laughing. "Did you see his face? He looked like he remembered something major. Was your mom some legendary beauty back in the day? Did billionaires fight over her, and he lost out? Is that why he looked at you like that?"
"Shut up," Holden snapped, shoving Kian's arm away.
Her eyes burned with unshed tears. For the past three years, after stealing Holden away, she had felt secure. She believed Winifred was the pathetic loser who sacrificed everything so Iris could have a perfect life. As long as Winifred was suffering, Iris's universe was balanced.
But today, Alistair Lockwood's reaction proved that Winifred had somehow won the favor of the main Kingsbridge Lockwood family. She had captured Leland's heart.
Leland was the heir to the wealthiest family in the country. He was significantly richer than Holden, three years younger, incredibly handsome, and possessed a famously stable and gentlemanly temperament. Everyone in their circle respected him.
Winifred hadn't just moved on—she had upgraded. She was soaring high above Iris and Holden.
Iris's sense of superiority shattered. Her entire foundation of security was collapsing. Panicking, she looked around for Holden, desperate for comfort, but her eyes caught Kian's instead.
