Winifred didn't even look at him.
Holden repeated himself, louder this time. "I said, I'm getting engaged. Did you hear me?"
Winifred turned to the assistant. "Let's go."
The assistant stepped forward. "Sir, please step aside."
Holden sneered. "I have a name. Weren't you in the room when your boss apologized to me?"
"I apologize, sir, but my only instruction is to get Ms. Shultz home safely," the assistant replied evenly.
The driver, a sharply dressed middle-aged man, gestured politely. "Please don't block the door, sir."
Holden ignored them, a malicious smirk playing on his lips. "So, Winifred. You hooked up with Leland just to get his protection?"
Winifred refused to waste a single syllable on him. Her disgust for him had officially eclipsed whatever love she once felt. Every time she saw him, her revulsion multiplied tenfold. After spending three years with Iris, her toxic, putrid nature had completely infected him. He was just as nauseating as she was.
Winifred stepped forward. The assistant and driver moved with her.
"Sir, if you don't move, I will call security," the assistant warned.
"Ha! You think Leland is the only one with security?" Holden scoffed.
Winifred raised her hand, fully prepared to slap him across the face. "Are you going to move, or not?"
Holden's eyes flashed with manic intensity. "Are you going to hit me?!" He grabbed her wrist mid-air, his grip bruising. He leaned in, his voice a venomous hiss. "You don't need to put on this ridiculous show with Leland just to make me jealous! I have a woman I am completely obsessed with. I don't care who you sleep with or what pathetic games you play behind closed doors. You mean nothing to me."
He was utterly unhinged.
Winifred ripped her wrist out of his grip. "Holden, if you don't get out of my way right now, I will break your arm."
Holden laughed bitterly. "Oh, so I struck a nerve? The truth hurts, doesn't it?"
Knowing he couldn't actually win a physical fight against her, he took a step back, but his mouth kept running.
"Leave Kingsbridge. Don't go back to Seaport City, either. Iris is a top-tier celebrity, which means we split our time between the major entertainment hubs in both cities."
"Do us all a favor and go hide in some backwater village where a chicken costs a dollar."
"Set yourself free."
"And let Iris and me live our perfect, happy lives in peace."
He was entirely delusional. Winifred rolled her eyes and looked away.
The driver quickly opened the door for her. The assistant shielded her as she stepped in.
Just as she slid one leg into the car, a loud, booming laugh echoed through the garage.
"Holden Lockwood! My man! Is that you?"
A middle-aged man with a greasy, bloated face jogged over from the next parking lane.
