Chapter 16 The HighLevel Slime

Earlier, when Chloe had learned Aqua Sphere, she had earned Talent Points, and now, learning Pyro Sphere, she had gained them once again.

Is it because of my Sorceress’s Boon talent?she wondered. ‘Do magicrelated activities have a chance to grant Talent Points?

Whatever the reason, Chloe already understood just how terrifying her talent truly was, which was a good thing for her, no question about it.

With basic Pyro Sphere at her disposal, she could even sell the remaining matches at night.

It was still only midday, yet Chloe’s haul from just half a day already rivaled what she used to earn over an entire day.

The midday sun was far too scorching. Chloe retreated into her wooden cabin to drink, rest, eat some hardtack, and sort through her current gains. The small wooden cabin offered a welcome wave of coolness. Once inside, Chloe glanced at the empty space beside her bed and squeezed her storage chest into place. The basic supplies she now had on hand included 0.5 gallons of fresh water, 45 pieces of stone, 78 iron ingots, 4 bundles of Plant Fibers, 10 lumps of Clay, 5 Plastic Scraps, and 183 Wooden Logs.

As for seeds, she had one carrot seed, three spinach seeds, three lily seeds, one morning glory seed, one orange tree seed, and a single slime essence sapling seed.

Her food situation was decent. She still had a fair amount of raw rabbit meat, lamb, and chicken, though these meats came with a limited shelf life. Even stored in her system backpack, each one displayed a Freshness indicator.

Hardtack, Cured Monster Jerky, and Protein Jerky, on the other hand, would clearly last far longer.

Chloe decided to eat the meat first and save the longerlasting items like crackers and bread for later. Keeping

the meat inside the wooden cabin should also help extend its freshness a little.

The most valuable items Chloe carried were her various blueprints and recipes. Her stockpile of basic resources was not actually that abundant.

The midday heat was simply too much. Her water supply was too tight to waste, and her Energy had already dropped to 80. Chloe decided to rest and conserve some strength for the monsters that would come at night.

My Energy is never enough, she thought wistfully. If only there were something that could raise my Energy cap or restore it.

Chloe had roasted some rabbit meat while fishing that morning. After finishing her meal outside, she was afraid of bringing the smell indoors, so she drank several mouthfuls of water and waited until her body temperature had dropped a little.

Then her eyes shifted to her pristine white bed, and she glanced down at her own body, filthy from struggling against all manner of creatures.

Chloe stepped over to her Simple Crafting Table and synthesized some coarse burlap cloth. The recipe was simple: 6 bundles of Plant Fibers combined into a single piece of extremely rough fabric.

She stepped outside, stood beside the carrot patch, and dampened the burlap clothe with a little water. She had no other choice, after all, since she did not own a wooden bucket yet.

Maybe I need to find an opportunity on the Trading Post to ask a carpenter to carve one out of wood for me’ she thought.

With the wet burlap in hand, Chloe returned to her cabin. She slipped out of her clothes and wiped her entire body down with the rough cloth. The burlap turned black almost instantly.

Her water supply was nowhere near enough for her to waste it on washing clothes or taking a proper bath, so she simply folded the dirty garments, set them outside, and let the sun beat down on them.

There was no one else in this territory besides Chloe, so she felt not trace of embarrassment. After

scrubbing herself down with the coarse burlap, she lay her body on the soft bed to rest.

Only once she had undressed did she notice just how many bruises and purple welts covered her body. It was almost horrifying. Every single one had come from being struck by Slimes.

A bed was meant to be used. Although Chloe felt a pang of regret seeing her cloudwhite sheets grow soiled, she would never put the cart before the horse. She lay down for a short midday nap.

Half an hour later, Chloe rose. With adequate rest, her entire body felt significantly better, and even the bruises seemed to have faded a little.

Only then did she notice her current status: [Coolness: You have some resistance to heat and feel pleasantly cool and dry throughout your body. Energy recovery is slightly increased. Duration: half an hour.]

And to think, Chloe mused. All it took was a little nap, and my Energy is completely full.

Chloe could hardly believe her eyes. She stared at the display once more, and her Energy was indeed sitting at a full 200 points.

It was only two in the afternoon. With her Energy fully restored, the number of tasks she could handle had just skyrocketed. I absolutely love this bed. This plush bed is worth every bit of effort I put into it.

After organizing her belongings, Chloe pinched her nose, pulled her dirty clothes back on, and stepped out of the wooden cabin.

The heat wave nearly made her want to turn around and retreat back inside. It felt exactly like stepping from an airconditioned room directly into thirtydegree outdoor heat.

Chloe exhaled slowly and resumed her fishing.

With her Luck now at six, her fortune had improved considerably. Her casting speed had increased dramatically, and on top of that, with Pyro Sphere mastered and her Energy bar full, she could handle nearly any small monster with ease.

The vast majority of the items were nothing more than scattered basic supplies.

As Chloe fished more and more, she realized that not every cast could yield a great haul.

All afternoon she reeled in fundamental resources and plain food. She did not even bother sorting through them and only deliberately set aside items of Premium quality or higher.

Perhaps because this Wish Rod only fished up truly unique items during its first few casts of the day, everything Chloe caught that afternoon was of Common quality.

The sun finally sank below the horizon. Chloe reeled in her very last cast and decided against trying for another.

The night would soon be crawling with monsters everywhere, and many of them clearly climbed up from somewhere below. Chloe was nowhere near foolish enough to court death by fishing for treasure in that kind of environment.

But this last cast had a pull that was impossibly heavy. Something enormous was yanking on the tiny fishing line far beneath the water, slowly rising upward.
