Chapter 18 Opening the Golden Chest

Chapter 18 Opening the Golden Chest

Chloe had felt a prickle of unease all afternoon, even as her fishing had gone so smoothly.

The rod in her hands fully lived up to its rating as a MidHigh Risk magical item. And that was with a Novice buff still attached to it.

Chloe hadn’t missed the fine print at the bottom of the rod’s description: during the novice phase, it would only pull creatures from the Novice Zone.

Without that socalled Novice Protection, she had a strong hunch the rod would have reeled in something far beyond her imagination.

Chloe turned her attention to the Golden Chest, and a little spark of anticipation flickered in her chest.

If only it could give me some kind of protective building, she thought. Something like that Basic Arcane Defense Tower, a structure that shields everything on my territory from monster attacks.

If defense towers exist, there’s got to be something else along those lines, right?

Her heart had practically bled watching her wooden cabin get destroyed today.

She’d been fishing with this Wish Rod for so long that wishing had become a habit. She held her breath and opened the chest. A radiant golden light spilled out.

This Wish Rod truly lives up to its greedy name. Several Epic blueprints.Chloe’s eyes sparkled at the haul. If it weren’t pitch black outside, she’d have been tempted to leap up and start using these treasures immediately. Wow, these are all Epic items,’ she marveled.

She’d already experienced how astonishingly effective an Epic item could be. The rod alone was far more powerful than anything of Rare quality.

The Arcane Soil Purifier, capable of cleansing soil corruption, solved one of her most pressing problems in a single stroke.

She had so many seeds, but the soil had always been too heavily corrupted to use. Finally, they could serve their purpose.

On top of that, she had an item of Inferior Legendary quality. Inferior Legendary is still Legendary, she thought.

The Arcane Workshop and the Basic Arcane Defense Tower were both Building Facilities. Unfortunately, her current Level 0 territory could only support one more structure.

What was more, she still didn’t have the Workbench Upgrade Tome needed for an Arcane Workbench. The feeling of having incredible items that she couldn’t use yet was pure torture.

And that Special Resource Domain Card looked especially unique. The tier beyond Epic, known as Legendary or Eternal Gilded, was something Chloe was seeing for the very first time. She drew in a deep breath.

The sky had gone completely dark. Mutant animals were already creeping up over the edges of her territory.

Perhaps because her soil plot had expanded so dramatically, the creatures now appearing on her fourbyfour space were far more vicious than before.

There were Mutant Timberwolves, Mutant Stags, Mutant Bats and so on. And there was the same redscaled flying serpent she’d spotted yesterday: the Crimson Winged Serpent.

A Pyro Sphere blazed in Chloe’s hand. Her other arm held her shield at the ready. Her body was covered in wounds, but her dark eyes burned bright in the firelight.

These mutant creatures were wary of the flame in her grasp. Compared to the day before, Chloe now stood on far firmer ground.

Her lifeordeath battle with the Adult Slime had tempered her. She was no longer the helpless fighter she’d once been.

Come on, then, she thought. Come at me.Her gaze swept across the mutant creatures. All of you, come on.’

By the time it was over, her Mana had bottomed out. She’d also burned through 3.5 ounces of the 14 ounces of Premium Arcane Dew she’d gathered that day.

Chloe was wounded as well, sporting cuts in more than a few places that needed bandages. She’d already gone to the Elite Trading Syndicate to trade food and fresh water for some.

The scattered remains of the battle had left a fair number of chests lying across her territory.

Chloe used a Pyro Sphere to set a log ablaze for light. Burning wood also produced Charcoal, so it was hardly a waste.

Pyro Sphere was, she had to admit, a skill with substantial killing power. Even that maddening winged serpent dancing through the air had ultimately been brought down by her fireballs.

Spread out before her were quite a few Bronze Chests and three Silver Chests.

By her count, she’d killed ten mutant creatures in total. She felt a fresh wave of gratitude that she’d learned Pyro Sphere.
