Chapter 44

Zoe, known in-game as “AllNightGamer,” felt the sting as she spent 300 basic resources to buy a Warming Stone using an

alias.

She couldn’t really explain it, but she just didn’t want Chloe to know she’d already stockpiled a bunch of resources. She was worried Chloe might try to guilt-trip her.

Zoe couldn’t help but grimace.

Even though she could finally use Talent Points now, they took time to regenerate.

Besides, with the pressure to survive mounting by the day, Zoe had been busy prepping to upgrade her territory, and she was running low on supplies.

When she saw Chloe’s cold reply, her resentment only deepened.

‘She takes half of my Talent Point products. What’s wrong with me taking a single Warming Stone from her? Zoe grumbled to herself.

She was now part of that exclusive trading group.

She believed there had to be meaning behind Eureka’s prediction.

Stocking up on a Warming Stone now would definitely help tomorrow.

Zoe was freezing. Her thin clothing was drenched by the rain, and whenever the wind picked up, she couldn’t stop shivering.

She was so cold that a new debuff flashed across her system panel: [Chilled.]

It wasn’t until Chloe handed over the Warming Stone that Zoe’s bone-chilling cold finally eased up.

Zoe took a deep breath, and was instantly shocked by the heat coming from the stone. The warmth was almost scalding, and the debuff disappeared right away.

‘Man, this feels so good, Zoe thought, clutching the Warming Stone tight.

As she stared irritably at the rain, a flicker of resentment toward Chloe surfaced. ‘She’s got plenty of Warming Stones to trade, but never once asked if I wanted one!’

‘Why should I give away my precious alchemical tools and potions to her? Why should I?’ Zoe thought, feeling irritated. With resentment and complaints still churning in her mind, Zoe continued trading in the Trading Post.

Her potions had been a hit lately, so she wasn’t really lacking resources anymore. In fact, she could slowly start working on upgrading her territory.

What Zoe didn’t notice was that, as her resentment and unwillingness accumulated, an invisible progress bar began to foun around her system panel: [Betrayal Metric: 86%]

As Chloe thought back to that bit of drama while glancing at the pile of materials she had gathered, a smile crept onto her face.

Finally. Time to upgrade my territory, Chloe thought, feeling a rush of excitement.

503 Common Wooden Logs, 303 Iron Scraps, 574 Stones, 100 Quartz, and 100 Plant Fibers.

Chloe tapped the upgrade hon for her territory

[System Message: Do you want to spend 500 Wooden Logs, 500 Stones, 196 Quartz, 300 Trots Scraps, and 100 extra random building materials (Plant Fibers) to upgrade your territory?

(Current territory upgrade time: 3 hours.

[Warning: During the upgrade, system functions will be restricted and territory facilities will be unavailable. Please choose a safe location to upgrade your territory!]

Chloe didn’t hesitate and hit confirm right away.

The next instant, the whole territory shook violently.

Chloe nearly stumbled!

Thick, white mist rolled in, spreading everywhere. She couldn’t see anything.

Instinctively, she opened her system panel, but it no longer showed territory functions, inventory, chat, or leaderboard It was an icy, merciless countdown timer: [Territory upgrading… Time remaining: 2 hours, 58 minutes.]

With her usual system panel gone, Chloe suddenly realized just how empty, and almost peaceful, the world really was.

Players were always alone, but with the Trading Post, it was like having a phone in their hand, so they never truly felt isolated.

Even when they weren’t chatting, simply opening the system panel every now and then was enough to ease the loneliness. But now, with all the system functions gone, Chloe felt totally uneasy.

The upgrade would finish right as night arrived.

Right now, it was still just late morning, almost noon.

Chloe tried casting Pyro Sphere and Aqua Sphere, and both worked normally.

She couldn’t enter the cabin, and the Legendary Arcane Defense Tower overhead was totally inactive like it had sleep mode.

Chloe couldn’t even check her character stats or grab any dew from her inventory.

Still, after using Pyro Sphere and Aqua Sphere for so long, she understood their energy consumption well.

Her fishing rod was still in her grip.

Thankfully, it was still usable, so she went right back to fishing.

The rain and hail made her feel a little cold, but honestly, it was nothing she couldn’t handle.

Hures.

This time, she caught several Frost Slimes.

The Frost Slimes were round and chubby, tiny little beings that suddenly appeared, bouncing around in the thick white

mist.

The moment they emerged, Chloe immediately cast Pyro Sphere.

She still had no clue how a fishing rod could pull up so many creatures, but honestly, once she started casting Pyro Sphere. nothing else really mattered.

Pyro Sphere got nerfed hard in the rain, and with no dew to restore her Health, Chloe tried to keep her energy usage as low as possible.

Half an hour later, several Silver Chests appeared on the ground.

As Chloe approached the chests, she quietly sighed in relief. ‘Luckily, I have 400 Energy now, twice what I used to. That really makes a difference. Without it, and with no dew to heal me, I would’ve been destroyed by those Slimes.

Mages are always low on mana and super fragile, Chloe sighed as she opened the chest.

[Congratulations! You’ve received 3x Freeze Spell Skill Tome Fragments!

[Congratulations! You’ve received 1x Rare Ice Core!

[Congratulations! You’ve received 0.34 fl oz of Premium Ice Spring Liquid!]

As usual, the loot was pretty meager.

But Chloe couldn’t tear her eyes away from the Freeze Spell Skill Tome Fragments.

‘Freeze Spell!’ Chloe thought, her heart racing.

Right now, Skill Tomes were like catnip to her; she just couldn’t resist them.

An idea immediately struck her. ‘I should really start snatching up Skill Tome Fragments whenever I can. After all, not everyone has a magic stat.’

[Ice Spring Liquid: An ultra-cold liquid, packed with rich ice energy and unique vital essence. It’s the absolute favorite treat for Frost Slimes.

[Quality: Premium

[Traits: Life Essence/ Alchemical Ingredient/ Arcane Material

[Storage Requirement: Must be kept in environments below -31°F]

Chloe had barely glanced at the new material before it instantly turned into watery liquid right in front of her.
