Aethelgard: The Survival Game (Chloe) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Chloe had only just adjusted to the blinding brightness after the endless darkness when a terrifying wave of heat siamme

into her

It felt as though her skin was being scorched alive. The temperature around her soared past 101 F almost instantly, and the thick winter layers she still had on became unbearably suffocating. Sweat quickly soaked through her clothes

At the same time, the System chimed in with a warning:

[Heatstroke: Under the blazing sunlight, you have gained the Heatstroke status. Prolonged exposure may lead to Sun Sickness]

(Heatstroke Progress: 35%]

Chloe immediately rushed into the Slime Hut. The moment she stepped inside, a “Cooling” status appeared. She quickly drank a mouthful of chilled dew, and only then did the burning sensation crawling across her skin finally ease.

She let out a long breath.

This temperature was insane. It had only been half a minute.

Without hesitation, Chloe stripped off her hiking outfit and winter down jacket. The surrounding heat was far worse than she had imagined. Before long, even the inside of the Slime Hut started to feel unbearably stuffy.

For a brief second, a ridiculous thought crossed her mind. ‘Could the hut actually catch fire from this heat?’

Alarmed, she immediately checked the condition of the territory. Sure enough, several buildings were already showing a “High Heat” status.

Wait, buildings can have Debuff too?’ Chloe thought, her heart skipping a beat.

Fortunately, as she continued checking the buildings, another status notification appeared beside the interface.

[Novice Protection: Environmental damage to buildings in new player territories is reduced by 75%.]

[Current Territory HP: 800/800 (Shield: 300/300)]

Chloe finally let out a breath of relief.

The heat was still unbearably intense, but she had no intention of wasting time here. Resource Cards were far too valuable Whether it was gathering more resources or taking this chance to explore the world beyond her territory, every second counted.

She quickly opened her System Panel to check the interface. As expected, she could still see the Trading Post, with messages from countless players scrolling rapidly across the screen. However, the message input bar had been grayed out and marked

unavailable.

The temperature outside was simply too high, so Chloe changed into lighter clothing, keeping only the hiking shirt and pants. She stuffed the heavy jacket into the hiking backpack, then stored the hiking backpack inside the Witch’s Backpack to reduce the overall weight.

Once everything was ready, she stepped outside.

The scorching heat slammed into her immediately, sharp enough to make her skin sting. The air above the ground twisted and shimmered from the extreme temperature, like transparent waves rippling across the earth.

Squinting beneath the blinding sunlight, Chloe looked ahead.

The forest was not far from where she stood.

She was currently standing on a raised stretch of land beside the outer perimeter fence surrounding the forest. The ground beneath her was charred black, as though it had been burned by fire long ago, with enormous jagged boulders scattered unevenly across the terrain

For miles around, there was no sign of another living person. It felt as though she were the only human left in the entire world.

Yet beyond the perimeter fence, the “forest” itself was a completely different scene. Massive towering trees and dense shrub filled the landscape, all far larger than anything Chloe had ever seen back on Earth. Their canopies stretched so high they nearly blocked out the sky.

But what truly unsettled her was how strange the forest looked. The leaves were an almost ink-black shade of dark green while the branches twisted into bizarre, unnatural shapes.

Under the blazing sunlight, the warped silhouettes of the trees looked even more grotesque and distorted.

And despite how dense the forest was, the ground beneath it was completely barren. Not a single blade of grass could be

seen.

It felt lush and desolate at the same time.

Chloe slung her backpack over her shoulder and headed toward the perimeter fence.

Thank goodness it’s not that far,’ Chloe thought to herself.

As she drew closer, she noticed strange writing carved across the barrier. It wasn’t any language she recognized. The symbols looked ancient and primitive, almost like pictographs.

But the moment her eyes landed on them, the System seemed to translate the text automatically, and the meaning surfaced clearly in her mind.

It read: [Forbidden Forest. Danger Zone. Witches roam here. Entry prohibited.]

The mention of witches gave her pause.

Whether witches truly existed here had nothing to do with her. She was just a hardworking resource gatherer trying to make a living.

With an easy leap, she hopped over the fence and continued deeper inside. The forest turned out to be much farther away than it had looked from a distance. After walking for nearly ten minutes, she finally reached the outermost line of towering

trees.

The moment she stepped beneath their shade, a cool breeze seemed to wash over her.

Chloe wiped the sweat from her forehead and kept drinking water as she walked. The extreme heat outside had drained moisture from her body alarmingly fast.

Her eyes swept over one of the massive trees nearby, and the System thoughtfully displayed its information.

[Fire Cedar

[Quality: Rare

[Traits: Building Material, Magical Building Material, Advanced Magic-Resistant Timber]

Chloe paused.

Every tree here was at least of rare quality.

Her eyes swept the surroundings again, and this time she noticed a patch of reddish-brown moss spreading arross the ground.

[Fire-Leech Moss: A special organism that grows alongside fire moss, gaining heat resistance in extreme temperatures.

[Quality: Rare

[Traits: Advanced Rare-grade building material, fire-resistant, rich in Fire Element, Intermediate alchemical ingrediend

As Chloe continued observing the area, another notification suddenly appeared in her vision.

[Mutant Magical Fire Fleece-Grass: A fleece-grass that somehow ended up here and adapted to the extrême environment developing a unique affinity with the Fire Element.

[Quality: Epic, Magical Lifeform

[Traits: Advanced mutant magical plant, oxygen-rich, temperature-regulating, luminous fibers, high durability

[Magic Threat Level: Medium

[Magic Traits: Bioactive, Berserk, Fire Manipulation

[Magic Ability: Absorbs Fire Element from the air and can resist and purify soil corruption.]

Chloe had originally been studying a nearby towering tree before casually glancing at the reddish moss below. But in the end, her gaze settled on a strange plant growing beside the tree.

It looked almost like a burning dandelion, its fiery strands swaying softly as though tiny flames were dancing across its surface.

The moment the System description appeared, Chloe’s expression changed slightly.

An Epic-tier mutant magical plant!’ Her eyes lit up in disbelief.

This place was practically overflowing with treasures. She had only just stepped into the forest, yet a casual glance had already turned up something this valuable.

She had seen Fleece-Grass before in the plant encyclopedia, but never one like this.

The mutant plant stood nearly half her height, its fluffy seed-like clusters glowing a deep crimson as though lit by tire from within. They burned quietly, casting a warm light without actually spreading flames.

And those burning puffs were enormous, each nearly the size of two grown men’s fists put together. Several hung from the plant, swaying gently in the scorching air.

ore Chloe looked at it, the more tempted she became.
