“Fine. Whatever.”

We pulled up in front of my building, and I got out. “You coming?”

“No, I’m good.”

“Alright. I’ll be right back.”

She nodded, and turned her attention to her phone.

I made my way up, and greeted the receptionist.

“Hello, Mr. King. We’ve been expecting you. You’re just in time. Everything is ready for you.

“Thanks.”

I went into the elevator, and waited for it to reach the floor of the meeting.

It took longer than usual, but when I arrived, everything was set and ready.

“Mr. King. Nice of you to join us. I was beginning to think you were having second thoughts.”

“Not at all. Let’s get started. We don’t have all day. I had to sacrifice quality time with my family for

this.”

The man nodded, and handed me the papers.

After carefully looking through the paperwork, and reading the fine print, I signed the dotted line.

“Pleasure doing business with you.”

“Likewise. Now, if that’s all, I’ll be heading home.”

“Of course, Mr. King. Thank you again.”

I shook his hand, and headed back down to the lobby. After saying my goodbyes, I headed back to

the car.

When I got inside, Tricia was nowhere to be found. Not inside the car. Not outside.

I walked into the building, and looked around.

I couldn’t see her, and she wasn’t picking up her phone.

Where did she go?

After another thirty minutes, and calling her over a hundred times, she finally strutted out from the

woods, wiping the corner of her lips. I also couldn’t miss the smell of blood.

“Please don’t tell me you killed someone.”

“Don’t worry. Just some stupid humans. No biggie. But, it’s not like anyone is going to believe them

anyway.”

“Tricia, aren’t you supposed to be on probation from feeding directly on humans due to your record of killing a handful of them in one sitting? You’re strictly supposed to take blood bags or animal

blood.”

“Oh, please. It’s just you that knows. Or are you going to report me?”

“No. But, just be careful. There are plenty of humans roaming around these woods, and if someone gets a whiff of blood, they’ll investigate.”

“They’ll think it was an animal. I didn’t kill him, so relax. And I compelled him. So, no harm done.”

“And he didn’t recognize you?”

“He didn’t see my face. And he was human, and had no idea who I was or what was happening.” “Alright. But, just be careful next time. Don’t let the council get on my ass for this.”

“They wouldn’t dare.”

“Well, let’s get going.”

We got into the car, and began our journey back home.

“Why did you even leave the car in the first place?”

“I got bored, and I had to feed. You can’t expect me not to drink, can you? I’m a vampire.”

“But, a controlled feeding would have sufficed. You didn’t have to drain him dry. I know you, Tricia. One is not enough.”

“Okay, fine. Two. But, not even close to dead. I didn’t kill him. He’ll wake up tomorrow with no idea how he got there.”

“Just, be careful, okay? The last thing I want is for you to be put under lockdown. Or put my family in harm’s way. It’s not safe for any of us. Please, just, try to control yourself. It’s not that hard.”
