CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYFIVE-1
HAILEY
Sunlight streamed into the bedroom, warm and golden. I stretched, feeling the delicious ache in my muscles from the night before. Dominic was still asleep beside me, his breathing deep and even. I watched him for a moment, my heart swelling with a love so intense it almost hurt.
He was so beautiful. So mine.
I carefully slipped out of bed, not wanting to wake him. I pulled on a silk robe, padding quietly out of the room. Everyone was still asleep, and it seemed like I was the first to wake up.
The entire house was littered with drink cups, cig ashes and the general smell of a good New
Year’s party.
I decided to walk outside, to get some fresh air. The beach was quiet, the only sound the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore. I walked along the water’s edge, the cool sand between
my toes.
I looked down and saw it. At the very beginning of the water, right where the sand met the sea,
something was glinting in the sunlight.
I leaned down, my curiosity piqued. It was a watch. A very expensive looking watch, with a dark leather strap and a silver face.
I picked it up, my fingers tracing the engraving on the back.
Adrian Sandler.
Adrian? Who was Adrian?
I looked around, searching the beach. But there was no one. Just me, the watch, and the endless
expanse of the ocean.
I walked back to the house, my mind racing. Who did this watch belong to? Was it one of our guests? Had they lost it during the party? Was he okay, or I was just overreacting?
Everyone came down for breakfast a couple of minutes later, and Dominic sat next to me, placing
a sweet kiss to my lips as he muttered, “Good morning, love.”
I didn’t miss Tricia’s eyes on me. She seemed so tense, and the moment her eyes landed on me, I
could feel her uneasiness.
I decided to ask, not to cause trouble, but for my own peace of mind. I held up the watch, my voice casual. “Good morning, everyone. Hey, I found this on the beach earlier. Does it belong to anyone?”

Dominic took the wristwatch and studied the inscription on the back. He looked confused for a
moment, then a look of shock crossed his face. He knew him. Of course he did.
“Adrian Sandler.” Giovanni said, his voice laced with a confusion as he stared at the watch too. “That’s Jonathan Sandler’s son. I saw him at the party last night. The one who was drinking near
the bonfire. Did he leave?”
Everyone started to murmur, a ripple of confusion spreading through the group. They had all seen
him. But no one had seen him leave.
“I haven’t seen him since last night,” Felicia said, her brow furrowed with concern. “He was talking
to some girl by the bushes. But I’m not sure who.”
“Maybe he went home with her? But why would his wristwatch be by the beach if he went home
with a girl? That doesn’t add up.” Giovanni added, voicing my own thoughts. He was just stating
what I was thinking.
Dominic was silent, obviously trying to find a rational explanation. Adrian was his friend and
business partner’s son, so he was responsible for making sure he got home safe. The fact that he
wasn’t aware of his whereabouts made him feel like a terrible host and friend.
“Before we panic about anything. I’m going to call him, to at least confirm if he’s safe. He had
probably misplaced the watch.”
Dominic brought out his phone and dialed the number, and we all waited in silence. I looked over at
