CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYSIX
HAILEY
“Time stamps,” he said, not looking at us. “I need to know the last confirmed sighting of Adrian.
Giovanni said he was near the bonfire. Let’s start there, around midnight.”
I watched as he pulled up the footage. The image was grainy but clear. We saw Adrian, exactly as Giovanni had described, laughing with a group of people near the fire. He was holding a beer,
looking relaxed and happy.
Another clip shows Tricia walking out the house in a different direction. She didn’t even go near
Adrian.
“Okay, keep watching,” Dominic muttered, his eyes glued to the screen.
Fast forwarding through the footage, we saw the midnight fireworks, the cheering crowd. Then, a
few minutes after, Adrian was seen walking away from the main party, towards the darker, quieter
part of the garden near the bushes.
The other clip that was recording Tricia’s location wuth the others suddenly went blank, it was only Adrian’s clip that was left. Our brows were furrowed in confusion as Adrian walked towards the garden like he was walking up to someone, but before we could figure out if there was someone
there, the video glitched. Static.
“Damn it,” Dominic slammed his fist on the desk, making me jump. “Why is it glitching?”
“Maybe it’s the wind,” Maxine suggested. “It was pretty windy last night. Could have knocked a
connection loose.”
But I didn’t think so. It felt too convenient. Too precise.
Someone had tampered with the camera. Something had definitely happened last night that
someone didn’t want us to see.
Dominic cursed under his breath, typing furiously, trying to get the feed back. “It’s no use. The
entire system for that quadrant is down. It looks like someone manually disabled it. The recording is gone.”
My gaze drifted back to the screen, to the frozen image of Adrian’s back, disappearing into the darkness. Who had he been walking towards? Who was there, waiting for him?
My mind immediately went to Tricia. Felicia had said she saw him talking to a girl by the bushes. What if that girl was Tricia?

No. I shook the thought away. I saw the footage of her walking away from the party in the opposite
direction. And her camera feed, although it cut out, showed her walking alone. As much as I didn’t
like the girl, accusing her of something as crucial as someone’s disappearance without any real
evidence is wrong.
My stomach twisted into a knot of dread. This was bad. Very, very bad.
Dominic stood up, pacing the small room like a caged wolf. His power was a palpable thing, a coiled spring of energy that made the air crackle. “Okay. If the footage is gone, we do this the old
fashioned way. Giovanni!” he barked into his phone. “Report.”
“We’ve swept the beach, Dom,” Giovanni’s voice came back, strained. “Nothing. No signs of a
struggle, no other footprints besides ours. It’s like he vanished into thin air.”
“Check the perimeter of the property. The cliffs, the wooded areas. Leave no stone unturned. Get every single person that was at the party for questioning.”
“On it.”
He hung up, running a hand through his hair in frustration. I hated seeing him like this, so helpless and burdened. This was his home, his territory. Someone had disappeared on his watch, and the
heaviness of that responsibility was crushing him.
I stood and walked over to him, wrapping my arms around his waist from behind. “We’ll find him,” I whispered, resting my cheek against his back. “He couldn’t have just disappeared off an island. He’s here somewhere. He’s probably black out drunk and sleeping in a bush somewhere. He will
wake up soon.”
He turned in my arms, cupping my face in his hands. His eyes were dark, a storm of worry and anger brewing within them. “I hope you’re right, Hailey. Because if someone hurt him on my land… things are going to go very bad for me. I can’t afford any more bad press with the humans.”
“I know,” I said, my heart aching for him. “But you can’t think about that right now. You have to
focus on finding him.”
He nodded, leaning down to press a hard, desperate kiss to my lips. “Let’s go back to the others. See if they’ve found anything.”
The whole house was now in a frenzy of activity. The guests who had stayed over were being
gathered in the living room, their cheerful post party mood replaced by a tense, somber fear. Felicia was moving through the guest rooms, her face pale. Maxine was coordinating with the
pack members, her expression grim.
I saw Tricia sitting on the edge of a sofa, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. She was more

relaxed now than before, but she also had the worried expression everyone else had. My gaze
lingered on her, a seed of suspicion taking root in my mind. There was something about her,
something that didn’t sit right with me. It was not just my jealousy anymore, there was something
genuinely off about her. I had to talk to her. I had to know.
I walked over to her, my heart pounding in my chest. I had to be careful. I couldn’t let my suspicion
show.
“Hey,” I said, sitting down next to her. “This is insane, right?”
She looked up at me, her expression indifferent. “It’s terrifying. I can’t believe this is happening. Poor guy.”
“Yeah,” I said, trying to keep my voice casual. “Did you ever catch a glimpse of him last night?
Perhaps when he was going towards the garden?”
“No, not really.” She said smoothly, no sign of nervousness or fear. “I was pretty drunk. I went to bed early. I have a terrible headache this morning. I’ve been in my room almost all morning.” She gave a small, convincing shudder. “Tequila. Never again.”
“Hmm, it’s strange.” I said, watching her closely. “Felicia mentioned she saw him talking to a girl by the bushes. Do you remember seeing who that was? Maybe you saw her before you went to bed.”
