CHAPTER HUNDRED TWENTY-SEVEN
HAILEY
She stood up and walked away, and I let out a sigh. Was I doing too much? I couldn’t just come up and accuse her. Not without proof.
My eyes followed her as she walked out onto the patio, pulling out her phone. I watched her for a
moment, a nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach.
She made a call, and I listened in. “Come get me out of this island, please. I’m obviously not
wanted here by anybody. Yeah, my things should be packed and ready in an hour. Just send the
car.” She was talking to someone about leaving, and I felt almost felt a pang of guilt.
But my guilt quickly disappeared when I remember all this lady has done. She might not have been
the one to harm Adrian, but she has caused enough trouble than I could handle. So her leaving was
good news for me, and it was best for everyone.
I walked back to Dominic, who was now in the living room with Giovanni. Their expressions were
grim.
“Anything?” I asked, my voice low.
“No,” Giovanni said, shaking his head. “Nothing. We’ve searched everywhere. It’s like he just…
vanished.”
“The security footage from last night is a dead end,” Dominic added, his frustration evident. “The cameras in that quadrant were disabled manually. We have a fifteen minute gap. From the
moment Adrian walked into the garden to the moment the camera came back online.”
“A fifteen minute gap?” I repeated, my mind reeling. “That’s more than enough time for someone
to… to do something.”
“We know,” Dominic said, his voice grim. “And we’re working on it. We’re checking the other
footage from other cameras around the property to see if we can see anyone else going in or out
of that area.”
“What about Tricia? Did you speak to her too?” I asked him, trying to know if he was able to get any information that I couldn’t get from her.
“I did. She said she didn’t know anything. That she went to bed early.”
“And you believed her?” I couldn’t help the skepticism in my voice.
Dominic’s gaze met mine, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. “I have no reason not to,

Hailey. She was my friend. And until we have proof that she’s involved, I’m not going to accuse her of something like this.”
“Well, she’s packing her things and leaving as we speak. Apparently, she had overhead your plan to send her out and she wants to save herself the embarrassment.”
He let out a sigh, running a hand through his hair. “That’s probably for the best. With the tension around here, it’s not a good idea for her to be here. It’s better for everyone if she leaves.”
I nodded, a sense of relief washing over me. But it was short lived.
Because we had a more pressing matter at hand. A missing person.
“The search continues,” Dominic said, his Alpha persona back in full force. “We’re not giving up. We
will find him.”
I hoped wherever Adrian was, that he was alive, because if he wasn’t, I had a feeling that Dominic will have more than a feud with the humans on his hands.

TRICIA
I walked back to my room, my hands shaking. The confrontation with Hailey had shaken me more than I cared to admit. She was more perceptive than I gave her credit for.
The way she calculated my moves, my expression, my breathing.
She suspected me. And she was not going to let it go.
I had to get out of here. Now.
I quickly packed my bags, my mind racing. I had to be careful I couldn’t leave any evidence behind.
I was almost done when I heard a knock on the door. I froze, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Tricia? It’s Dominic.”
I slowed down my heart rate, wiping off the sweat and any signs of nervousness from my face. “Come in,” I said, my voice steady.
He opened the door and walked in, his expression unreadable. “I heard you were leaving.”
I nodded, not meeting his eyes. “I think it’s for the best. I don’t want to cause any more trouble for
you and Hailey. And with everything that’s going on with Adrian, it’s just… not a good time.”
“I’m sorry, Tricia. I never wanted it to be like this, but what you want from me is something I can never give you. I’ve come to terms with the fact that just because we were friends years ago,

doesn’t mean we will be friends now. We are not the same people we used to be, Tricia.”
“My entire experience here was horrible.”
Clam
“I know,” he said, his voice soft. “And I’m sorry for that. But you can’t blame me for moving on with my life.”
“I don’t. I really don’t. I just… I need to go.”
He nodded, a sad smile on his face. “I understand. I’ll have someone take you to the dock
whenever you’re ready.”
“Thank you, Dominic. But i already have someone coming to pick me up.”
He turned to leave, but then he stopped at the door. “Tricia… if you know anything about Adrian’s disappearance, now would be a good time to tell me. Before you leave.”
My blood ran cold. Did he know? Was he testing me? “I don’t know anything, Dominic. I swear.”
He looked at me for a long moment, his eyes searching mine. “Okay,” he said, finally. “Be safe.”
He left, and I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. He didn’t know. He was just being
paranoid.
I finished packing, my movements quick and efficient. I was ready to leave this place behind. At least, until the whole Adrian situation has died down.
No pun intended.
I walked out of the room, my luggage in tow. The house was still a hive of activity, a flurry of a search in motion. I kept my head down, not wanting to draw any attention to myself.
As I walked towards the front door, I saw Hailey watching me from the living room. Her eyes were narrowed, a look of pure suspicion on her face.
She knew. Or at least, she suspected. I could see it in her eyes.
I ignored her and walked out of the house, the bright sunlight a welcome relief. I walked down the long driveway, my luggage bumping along behind me. At the gate, a sleek black car was waiting
for me.
The driver got out and took my luggage, placing it in the trunk. He opened the back door for me, and I slid inside, the cool leather a welcome comfort against my skin.
The car pulled away, and I looked back at the house, a sense of relief washing over me. I was out. I
was free.
