said, standing in front of both of them. Before I could say another word, Johnathan grabbed my

hand and pushed me out of the way. “Get out of my way.”

Caught off guard, I lost my balance and stumbled backward, my head hitting the hard marble floor

with a sickening thud.

Everything went black for a second, but Dominic’s roar of fury brought me back to the world.

“You shouldn’t have done that.”

In a blur of motion, Dominic moved. He was on Jonathan in a heartbeat, his hand wrapped around

the human’s throat. Jonathan’s bodyguards raised their guns, but before they could fire, Giovanni

and the other wolves were on them, snarling, their eyes glowing.

I cradled my head, a low groan escaping my lips. The pain was excruciating, a sharp, throbbing ache that radiated down my neck. The room was spinning, the sounds of the struggle a distant,

muffled roar.

Through the haze, I could see Dominic holding Jonathan up in the air, his feet dangling helplessly. “I told you to leave,” Dominic said, his voice a low growl, barely human. “I tried to be patient with you

because of Adrian. But, you chose to put your fucking hands on my mate, and for that, you’re going

to pay the price.”

He squeezed, and I heard a sickening crack. Jonathan’s eyes went wide with shock and pain, a gurgling sound escaping his lips.

“Dominic, don’t!” I screamed, my voice hoarse. I tried to get up, but the world tilted again, and I had

to lie back down, the pain too much to bear.

“Giovanni, stop him please! This is not the right way to do this!” I called out to Giovanni, but he was

too busy disarming one of the bodyguards to hear me.

The police officers were frozen in place, their faces pale with fear. They were out of their depth, and they knew it.

I watched in horror as Dominic’s grip tightened, the bones in Jonathan’s neck grinding together. He was going to kill him.

“Dom, please. Let him go. You’re going to regret this. I’m okay. I’m fine.” I thought he would not listen, but he did.

He slowly lowered Jonathan to the ground, his grip on the human’s throat still firm. “Get out of my house,” he said, his voice dangerously low. “Get off my island. And don’t ever come back. If you do,

I will kill you. I swear on my life.”

Jonathan, gasping for air, his face red, could only nod, his eyes wide with terror. He stumbled back,

rubbing his neck, his bravado gone, replaced by a primal fear.

Dominic turned to the police officers, his eyes still glowing with a feral light. “You all have five minutes to get off my property. I want every last one of your vehicles gone. If I see any of you here after that, I will assume you are a threat, and I will act accordingly. Now go.”

The officers didn’t need to be told twice. They scrambled out of the house, their movements clumsy and panicked, dragging a still coughing Jonathan with them. Within minutes, the sound of sirens wailed, growing fainter as they sped away.

The silence that followed was heavy, broken only by my ragged breathing and the pounding in my

head.

pure, Dominic was by my side in an instant, his anger vanishing, replaced by a look of unadulterated concern. “Hailey,” he whispered, his hands gently cupping my face. “Are you okay? I’m so sorry. I lost control.”

“I’m fine,” I said, though I was anything but. The pain was still there, a throbbing reminder of my foolishness. “I just… I hit my head.”

“Let me see,” he said, his fingers carefully probing the tender spot on the back of my head. I winced, and he immediately pulled back. “We need to get you to a doctor. Now.”

He scooped me up into his arms, cradling me against his chest. I wrapped my arms around his neck, burying my face in his shirt, the scent of him a comforting anchor in the storm of my pain.

He carried me up the stairs, his movements gentle and sure, Giovanni and the other pack members watched us go, their faces a mixture of relief and lingering worry.

He laid me down on the bed, his touch feather light. “I’ll be right back,” he said, before disappearing into the bathroom. He returned a moment later with a first aid kit.

He cleaned the wound with an antiseptic wipe, his touch careful and precise. I hissed as the stinging sensation shot through my head.

“I know, I’m sorry,” he said, his voice soft. “Just a little bit more.”

He applied a small bandage to the cut, then leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. “How does that feel?”

“Better,” I said, my voice still a little shaky. “Thank you.”

“Thank you for what?”

“For stopping. For listening to me. I was so scared you were going to kill him.”

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “So was I. I’ve never felt so… out of control. When he pushed you, something inside me just snapped. I saw red.”

“I know,” I said, taking his hand in mine. “But it’s over now. And we’re okay.”
