CHAPTER HUNDRED-FORTYEIGHT-1

HAILEY

It’s been one week since Dominic’s and the pack’s innocence was proven, and the world has been

eerily quiet.

Felt bad for Johnathan. Felt bad for the loss of his son. He didn’t deserve to die. No one saw it

coming, and the trauma was forever etched in my head.

I couldn’t imagine how his parents must be feeling. Johnathan’s threats has died down as he found out the truth, he couldn’t even blame anyone of the death of his son, at least that would have given him a little bit of peace, but there was none.

He just had a dead son, and nothing more.

The pack had been working tirelessly to find the rogue, and they finally did with the help of the vampires. The rogue was an old one, and the older they get, the more they lose their sanity, until all they think about is blood.

The vampire had killed five other humans before the council took him down.

I watched from afar, as the elders and the council worked together to execute the rogue.

It was a gruesome, bloody scene.

The elders used their powers to weaken the rogue, while the council members used their weapons to inflict damage. That was a few days ago.

And today, today was Adrian’s funeral.

We were of course not invited, but it didn’t sit well with me not to go. It was only right to pay him his last respect as someone who took his last breath in our territory.

Dominic wasn’t too sure about that decision, uncertain how Johnathan would react. I had to convince him. I told him it was the right thing to do.

I wore a simple black dress, my hair tied up in a neat bun. I had a somber expression on my face. I had to put on a brave face, to be the strong Luna for my pack.

Dominic stood beside me, his hand in mine. He was dressed in a black suit, his face a mask of stoicism. His eyes were hidden behind his shades. As much as Dominic tried to hide the way he was feeling, I knew this affected him more than he let on. He wasn’t sleeping well, and the stress of the past weeks had taken its toll on him.

I looked around, seeing the faces of the people who had come to pay their respects. There were a

few familiar faces, some people I recognized from the town.

The crowd parted, and I caught sight of Johnathan and his wife.

Clarm

His wife was dressed in a simple black dress, her eyes red rimmed from crying. This was the first time I was seeing her and she looked so beautiful and frail, her eyes were a dull blue, a shadow of

her husband’s.

Johnathan was dressed in a dark grey suit, his face a mask of grief. His eyes were puffy and red rimmed, his hands shaking slightly. He looked like a broken man, a shell of the person he once was.

I could see the pain in his eyes, the deep, unfathomable grief. They had lost their only son, an only child. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the kind of pain they were feeling.

Dominic had given me the rundown on Johnathan and his wife. Johnathan’s family, the Sandlers, had been a wealthy, influential family in the town, a pillar of the community. They were well known for their philanthropic efforts and had donated generously to various causes.
