CHAPTER HUNDRED-FORTYNINE-1

HAILEY

It’s been two months of living in peace and harmony, that it almost felt too good to be true.

Two months of no drama. Two months of no fights.

I could feel the tension slowly draining from the pack. Two months since the rogue was taken care of, and everyone could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

No longer was there a shadow hanging over the pack, no longer was everyone on edge, waiting for

the next disaster to strike.

It felt good. It felt right.

Everyone seemed more relaxed, more at ease. We were finally able to settle back into a comfortable routine, a normal life.

Valerie and I were in one of our favorite cafes we usually went after our shift at the hospital. She was obviously on maternity leave now as she was in her last trimester of pregnancy, but I resumed

She was glowing and radiant, her belly swollen with child. She was always smiling, always happy. Her excitement was infectious, and I couldn’t help but feel her joy.

“I can’t wait to see his face,” she gushed, her eyes shining with anticipation. “I can’t wait to meet my baby boy.” She said, rubbing her swollen belly.

“He’ll be the most handsome boy,” I said, grinning.

“He better be,” Valerie said, a serious expression on her face. “One of the reasons I accepted to be with his father was because he was so damn gorgeous.”

“Aren’t you a little shallow, Val?” I teased.

“Hey, beauty is only skin deep, and that guy is so gorgeous inside and out. Besides, I’m a nurse, and I deal with ugly everyday. I think it’s my duty to surround myself with pretty things.”

I rolled my eyes, trying not to laugh. Valerie has always been a bit eccentric, but it was part of her

charm.

“So, when are you and Dominic going to have more babies? Liam is six, and will be seven soon! Or do you want him to be a teenager first before you give my baby a sibling?”

I chuckled. Indeed, the thought of having another baby has been on my mind a lot lately, but with

the whole wedding plans, it would be so much better to get pregnant after the wedding.

At least, I could look my best in the pictures.

“Come on, Val, I need to recover from giving birth before thinking of doing it all over again.”

“Recover?” she asked, her brows furrowed.

Clam

“Yeah, the pain. You know, pushing a watermelon sized baby through a tiny hole is not something one can easily forget.”

“Oh, don’t try to scare me now. You mean, even after six years, you haven’t gotten over it?”

“Well, it’s not that easy. Every birth is different, and the recovery is not the same. So, I’m not sure how I would be like.”

“Well, then, you better not wait too long, because my baby boy will definitely need a playmate.”

“Oh, come on, you guys have plenty of time. Don’t be a nag.”

“A nag? What do you mean, a nag? I’m your best friend, and I have every right to make sure you’re not wasting time.”
