CHAPTER HUNDRED-FORTYNINE-2

And that’s exactly how it was for Valerie. She had a good heart and was loyal to a fault. She was

also a very independent woman and never needed anyone, especially a man.

But then she met her soul mate. She fell in love and allowed herself to be loved. She built a

beautiful life with him. She got a taste of the good life and became addicted.

She couldn’t go back to a life without him, so she decided to make the best out of a bad situation. She didn’t give up on life. She chose to continue living.

I knew, deep down, the thought of him crosses her mind every day. She would probably wonder

what he would think if he could see her. Would he approve of her choices? Would he be proud of

her?

Valerie was a fighter, a survivor. She always found a way to smile, to keep going. She was the epitome of strength and resilience.

“Are you ready to head home?” I asked, standing up and picking up the tray.

“Oh, yes,” Valerie said, getting up, her eyes twinkling with excitement. “I can’t wait to take a nap. I swear, the pregnancy is making me so sleepy.”

“Well, enjoy your rest,” I said, chuckling. “Because once that baby is born, there will be no time for sleep.”

“Don’t remind me,” Valerie said, sighing. “But it’ll be worth it. All the sleepless nights and endless feedings will be worth it.”

“Well, if you need any help, you know I’m always here for you.”

“I know, and I appreciate that,” Valerie said, smiling. “Now, let’s get out of here and get some sleep.

We made our way out of the cafe and into the parking lot. The sun was shining brightly, and the air

was crisp and fresh.

As we approached my car, I could sense something was wrong.

Valerie paused.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, sensing her unease.

“I don’t know,” She said, frowning. “I feel a little pressure in my abdomen.”

“You might just have gas,” I said, chuckling.

“No, it’s not that. I feel a bit…weird.”

“The baby…something’s wrong. I can feel it.”

“Don’t worry, we’re going to the hospital, okay? Just hold on.”

“Okay,” Valerie said, her voice shaky.

I started the car and drove as fast as I could to the hospital.

“Come on, let’s get you home,” I said, helping her into the car.

I was starting the engine when Valerie let out a low moan.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, alarmed.

“Something’s wrong,” She said, her voice strained as she clutched her belly. “I- I think the baby is

coming.”

Our eyes widened at the same time.

“What? No, not yet. You’re not due for another two weeks!”

“I don’t think he’s waiting,” Valerie said, panting.

“Shit,” I muttered, grabbing my phone and calling Giovanni.

“Gio, are you home?”

“Not yet, I’m on my way.”

“Get over here now. I’m driving to the hospital. Valerie is in labor.”

“What? She’s not due for another two weeks.”
