CHAPTER HUNDRED-FIFTYTWO-3
I buried my face in his chest, inhaling his familiar scent. For a moment, I let myself be weak, let the
fear and anger wash over me. Then, I pulled back, my resolve hardening. “We have to protect them,
Dom.”
“We will,” he said, his gaze unwavering. “No matter what it takes.”
We went inside, and the familiar squealing of Liam running down the hall to greet me brought a
smile to my face, however brief.
“Mommy!” he yelled, launching himself into my arms. “You’re home!”
“Hey, buddy,” I said, hugging him tight. “Did you have a good day at school?”
“Yes! We learned about dinosaurs! Did you know the T-Rex had tiny little arms?” he said, holding up
his own arms and wiggling his fingers.
“I did know that,” I said, ruffling his hair. “It’s a good thing you have big strong arms for hugging,
right?”
“Yep!” he said, giggling. “Can we go see the baby again?”
“In a little while,” I said, my gaze meeting Dominic’s over Liam’s head. “Right now, Mommy and
Daddy need to have a grown up talk.”
Liam’s face fell, but he nodded. “Okay.”
Soon enough, he got distracted by a cartoon in the living room. I walked with Dominic to where
Valerie and Giovanni were sitting at the table, a pot of coffee between them. They looked up as we
entered, their expressions a mixture of concern and exhaustion.
“You told them?” I asked Dominic.
He nodded. “They need to know. They need to be prepared.”
Valerie’s jaw was tight, her hands wrapped around a mug. “That bitch,” she said, her voice low and
dangerous. “I knew she wouldn’t just disappear.”
Giovanni’s hand rested on her shoulder, a silent show of support. “What’s the plan?” he asked, his direct gaze fixed on Dominic.
“The plan,” Dominic said, taking a seat at the head of the table, “is to shut this down before it even
starts. The council meets tomorrow. Hailey, you and I are going. We will present our case, and we will remind them of their duty to this pack. To this family. That’s if they choose to reverse the ban.”
“Yasmine did mention something about her mother’s death. She was banished with her mother too, right? And now, her mother is dead. I think she might try to use that as a way to gain sympathy

from the council.” I said.

“She might,” Dominic agreed. “But her mother was banished for a reason. She was a threat to the
pack. Her death doesn’t change that.”
“So, what’s our angle?” Valerie asked, her voice sharp. “How do we make sure they don’t let her
back in?”
“Our angle,” I said, leaning forward, “is to remind them of the outrageous things she has done.
Nothing beats the truth. We remind them of how she’s a manipulative, lying, sociopath who
bewitched the Alpha for years to gain his trust. A woman who is willing to tear apart a family for
her own selfish gain. We remind them that she is not to be trusted. We remind them of the threat
she made against Phoenix.”
“A death threat against a newborn is a pretty powerful motivator,” Giovanni said, a grim smile on
his face.
“It is,” I agreed. “But we need more. We need to show them that she’s not just a threat to the pack.
She’s a threat to the entire supernatural world. She’s a witch, Dom. A powerful one. And she’s not
