CHAPTER HUNDRED-FIFTY FIVE-1
HAILEY
The council reconvened an hour later.
Dominic and I were led back into the large, circular room. The atmosphere was different now. The council members were more relaxed, their expressions softer. They had made their decision. Yasmine was sitting in the same spot, a faint, triumphant smile playing on her lips. She knew she had won.
Alistair cleared his throat, the sound loud in the quiet room. “We have deliberated,” he began, his gaze sweeping over Dominic and me. “We have considered the petition of Ms. Yasmine, and the counterarguments presented by the Alpha and his Luna.”
He paused, his eyes settling on Yasmine. “We are a community built on forgiveness, on second chances. While Ms. Yasmine’s past actions were… regrettable, we see genuine remorse. We see a daughter who has lost her mother and wishes only to mourn her passing in peace.”
I wanted to scream. To stand up and tear into all of them for their foolishness. But Dominic’s hand on my knee was a steady, grounding presence. He squeezed gently, a silent command to stay calm.
“Therefore,” Alistair continued, “the council has decided to grant Ms. Yasmine a provisional return to the pack. She will be on a probationary period of six months. During this time, she will be monitored, and her behavior will be assessed. If she shows any signs of returning to her former ways, the banishment will be reinstated, permanently.”
The decision hung in the air, a death sentence for our peace of mind. Yasmine’s smile widened, a flash of pure, unadulterated victory in her eyes. She had done it. She had won.
Dominic stood up, his movements slow, deliberate. He was a statue of cold fury. “I think you all are forgetting something here. I am your Alpha. Age be damned. It doesn’t matter if you all were my father’s council. This is my pack now, and you all will have to respect my decision. And my decision is that she doesn’t step a foot onto this territory again.”
His voice was low, but it carried an undeniable force, the power of his Alpha authority rolling through the room. The council members shifted uncomfortably, their arrogance faltering in the face of his raw power.
Alistair’s face hardened. “Your authority is not absolute, Dominic. The council exists to provide balance, to ensure that the Alpha’s judgment is not clouded by… personal matters.”
“This is not a personal matter, Alistair,” Dominic shot back, his eyes blazing. “This is about the security of this pack. My decision stands. She is not welcome here. I may be your Alpha, but this is my final say.”

A heavy, charged silence descended upon the room. The council members looked at each other, their faces a mixture of shock and anger. They had hot expected such a direct challenge to their authority.
“Then we have an impasse,” Alistair said, his voice tight with anger. “You cannot overrule a unanimous council decision, Alpha.”
“Then I will go to the elders council,” Dominic said, referring to a higher authority, a council of Alphas from neighboring packs that oversaw major disputes. “If you want to challenge my authority, let’s see how you fare against theirs.”
It was a power play, a dangerous one. A challenge to the council’s authority could fracture the
pack, creating a rift that might never heal. But it was also our only move.
Yasmine, sensing an opportunity, spoke up, her voice a silken thread of malice. “Don’t do that,
Alpha Dominic. You don’t want to start a war over little old me, do you? Think of your pack. Think of your family. You wouldn’t want to put them in danger, would you?”
The threat was thinly veiled, a clear reference to the new baby. It was a low blow, a calculated
move to force Dominic’s hand.
Dominic’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t back down. “will do whatever it takes to protect my family,
