CHAPTER HUNDRED-SIXTYSIX-3

“What?” I gasped, my mind reeling. “How? When?”

“They found her body in her hotel room a few hours ago,” he continued, his eyes still fixed on mine. “She was shot several times on her stomach and head. Someone killed her.”

I stared at him, my mind a blank slate. Dead? Yasmine was dead? It was over. The threat was gone. The person who had tried to kill Giovanni, the person who had ruined my life, was gone.

I should have been happy. I should have been relieved. But I wasn’t. I was scared.

“Are you sure?” I asked, my voice a barely-there whisper. “Are you sure it was her?”

He nodded, his expression unreadable. “It was her.

I didn’t know what to say, what to think, what to feel A part of me was glad she was gone, glad that the nightmare was finally over. But, the real question was, who killed her? A part of me couldn’t shake the feeling that this was wrong, that this was too easy, that this was just the beginning of

something much, much worse.

I thought about the stripper’s words. She knows. She’s watching. Who was ‘she’? If Yasmine was

dead, who was watching me?

“Dominic,” I said, my voice trembling. “I have to tell you something. At the party… one of the strippers, he came up to me. He whispered something in my ear.”

Dominic’s expression didn’t change, but I saw a flicker of something in his eyes. Fear? Or something else?

“What did he say?” he asked, his voice dangerously calm.

“He said, ‘Be careful. She knows. She’s watching.”

Dominic’s jaw tightened, the muscle in his cheek twitching. “And you didn’t think to tell me this

sooner?”

“I was scared,” I confessed, my voice breaking. “I didn’t want to ruin the night. I didn’t know what it

meant. I still don’t.”

“Who was he?” he asked, his voice sharp.

“I don’t know,” I said, shaking my head. “I’ve never seen him before in my life.”

Dominic was quiet for a long moment, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. The only sound was the hum of the engine, a low, steady thrum that did little to soothe my frayed nerves.

“This changes everything,” he said, his voice a low, menacing growl. “If Yasmine didn’t do it, or if she wasn’t working alone, then someone else is out there. Someone who is still a threat.”

I nodded, my heart a cold, heavy stone in my chest. “I know.”

We drove the rest of the way in silence, the unspoken fears and uncertainties hanging between us

like a shroud.

What was going to happen tomorrow? Was my wedding day going to be ruined by all of this? Was someone going to try to hurt me? Or worse?

I didn’t know. And that was the most terrifying part of all.

Dominic carried me into the house, my legs too weak to hold me up. He took me to our bedroom, his movements gentle but precise. He sat me down on the bed, then knelt in front of me, his hands

on my knees.

“Look at me,” he said, his voice a low, commanding growl that left no room for argument.

I looked at him, my eyes wide with fear.

“We are getting married tomorrow,” he said, his gaze unwavering. “Nothing and no one is going to stop that. Do you understand me?”

I nodded, my breath catching in my throat.
