CHAPTER HUNDRED-SIXTYSEVEN-1

HAILEY

The morning light streamed through the window, a harsh, unforgiving glare that did little to dispel the lingering darkness from the night before. My wedding day. A day that was supposed to be filled with joy and love, but was now tainted with fear and uncertainty.

I lay in bed, my body aching from the previous night’s revelry, my mind a chaotic mess. Yasmine was dead and it still seemed unbelievable, the same woman who had caused so much pain and suffering, the one who had tried to kill Giovanni, was gone. But the relief I thought I would feel was absent, replaced by a chilling dread that settled deep in my bones.

The stripper’s words echoed in my mind, a sinister refrain that wouldn’t let me be. She knows. She’s watching. Who was ‘she’? If Yasmine was dead, who was watching me?

I sat up, my head throbbing, and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My door swung open, and

in came all the girls.

“Happy wedding day!” They screamed in unison, their voices a chorus of forced cheerfulness.

I forced a smile, my heart not in it. “Thanks, guys.”

Other women rushed into the room, carrying different garment bags. They were the stylists, the makeup artists, the hairdressers, a small army of people dedicated to making me beautiful on my

wedding day.

They descended upon me, and the next few hours were a blur of activity. I was plucked, and pampered, my hair was styled into an intricate updo, my makeup was applied with a deft, practiced hand. But through it all, my mind was a million miles away, my thoughts a tangled web of

fear and uncertainty.

Dominic had been gone all morning, and I hadn’t heard from him. I didn’t know where he was, what he was doing. I just hoped he was safe, that he was being careful.

As the final touches were applied, and I was presented with my reflection, I barely recognized the woman staring back at me. She was beautiful, ethereal, a vision in white lace and tulle. But her eyes were haunted, a window to the turmoil that raged within.

My eyes blurred with tears to the horror of my make up artists, they immediately tried to fix it.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “I’m just… emotional.”

“It’s your wedding day, honey,” Valerie said, her voice gentle. “You’re allowed to be emotional. But happy tears, okay? Only happy tears.”

I nodded, a lump forming in my throat. I wanted to be happy. I wanted to be the blushing bride, the

woman who was marrying the love of her life. But the fear was a constant, gnawing presence, a shadow that loomed over my joy.

But this was my first and last wedding, I couldn’t remember it as a day that I was living in constant fear, I couldn’t remember it as a day that I let fear win. I had to push it down, to bury it deep inside me, and focus on the one thing that mattered: marrying the love of my life.

I took a deep breath, a steely resolve settling over me. I was going to get married today. I was going to be happy. And no one, not Yasmine, not her mysterious death, not the stripper with the ominous warning, was going to take that away from me.

“Okay,” I said, my voice stronger now. “I’m ready.”

My dress was the most gorgeous thing I had ever seen. It was a masterpiece of lace and silk, a perfect fit that hugged my curves in all the right places. As I looked at myself in the full length mirror, a genuine smile finally graced my lips. I was beautiful. I was a bride.

“I’m ready,” I repeated, my voice filled with a newfound confidence.
