After Rejection Divorced Luna Becomes A Famous Doctor (Hailey and Dominic) novel Chapter 240

CHAPTER HUNDRED-EIGHTYFOUR-1

CHAPTER HUNDRED-EIGHTYFOUR-1

HAILEY

It’s been a few days since we arrived from our little getaway. The peace we found at the cabin didn’t last long after we returned. The moment we stepped back into the pack house, the heavy, suffocating tension of it all settled back over us like a shroud. Liam had already gone to play with his friends, so it was just Dominic and me, a bubble of silence in the chaotic hallway.

Dominic, ever the Alpha, was immediately swept into a meeting with Giovanni and Carlos about the increased border patrols. His jaw was tight, the relaxed lines from our trip already replaced by the hard, strained mask of leadership. I watched him go, a familiar pang of longing in my chest. I wanted the man from the lake, not the Alpha of a pack under siege.

I decided to go to the kitchen to fix a small snack for myself. Soon, the whole pack would be busy with the preparation of the annual werewolf festival that will hold in a few weeks, and I wanted to help. But I also couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched.

As I rounded the corner to the kitchen, I saw her. Tricia. She was standing by the large island, talking to one of the younger omegas who was helping with the food preparations. She wasn’t doing anything wrong, not really. Just… talking. But the sight of her made my stomach clench. She looked different. Softer, somehow. She was wearing a simple floral dress, her hair tied back in a loose ponytail. She looked… harmless.

The omega she was talking to, a young girl named Maya, was smiling, nodding along to whatever Tricia was saying. My wolf bristled, a low growl rumbling in my chest.

Why was she in my wing? Wasn’t a strict warning placed on her? I thought to myself, as I clenched my fist to prevent myself from making a scene. The last thing I wanted was to give her the satisfaction of knowing she got under my skin. I will ask Dominic later.

I walked past them, my head held high, a mask of cool indifference on my face. I didn’t look at them, but I could feel their eyes on me. The feeling of being watched that I had earlier in the hallway was back, and I had a feeling it was coming from Tricia. I grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl and turned to leave. “Hailey,” Tricia said, her voice a little hesitant. “Hi.”

I stopped, my back still to her. I took a deep breath, forcing myself to turn around. Some of my staffs were here and I didn’t want to give them the impression of a hostile person, they already saw me as insecure and I was working on changing that, so I had to swallow my pride and behave civilly.

“Tricia,” I said, my voice neutral. I could feel the omega, Maya, shrink back a little, her eyes darting between us. The air in the kitchen grew thick with unspoken words and years of shared history.

“I was just telling Maya how much I admire the way you’ve taken to your role as Luna,” she said, a small, practiced smile on her face. “It’s not easy, stepping into a position like this. Especially with everything that’s been going on. You’re so strong.”

here,” he said, his voice a low, menacing growl. “You have disrespected my mate, you have disobeyed my orders, and you have tried to sow discord in my pack. I’ve been lenient with you, Tricia. Out of some misguided sense of loyalty to our past. But my patience has run out.”

He turned to Carlos. “Take her.”

Carlos nodded, his face grim. He grabbed Tricia by the arm, his grip firm and unyielding. She didn’t struggle, just went willingly, a small, satisfied smirk on her face that only I could see. She had won. She had forced his hand, and now she would play the martyr.

As they left, the kitchen staff scattered, whispering amongst themselves. Giovanni shot me a look of sympathy, before following them out, leaving me alone with Dominic.

The silence that followed was heavy and suffocating. He stood with his back to me, his shoulders rigid with tension, staring at the door as if he could will her back just to punish her again.

She knew,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “She knew, Dominic. Someone told her.”

He turned around, his eyes dark with a rage so potent it made the air crackle. “No one told her. We trust every single person who knows about our baby. So she must have found out by herself. That’s the only explanation.”

I shook my head, my mind racing. “How? I’ve been so careful. We’ve been so careful.”

Doesn’t matter how,” he said, his tone final. “All that matters is what I’m going to do about it.”

What are you going to do?” I asked, a knot of dread tightening in my stomach.

I’m going to make an example out of her,” he said, his voice dangerously quiet. “No one, and I mean no one, messes with my family. No one disrespects my Luna. Especially not someone who is supposed to be a member of this pack. A guest.”

He walked over to me, his hands reaching out to cup my face. His touch was gentle, and I leaned into his touch.

I’m sorry, Hailey,” he said, his voice a low, rough whisper. “I’m so sorry. I failed to protect you. I failed to protect our secret.”

This isn’t your fault,” I said, my hands covering his. “You can’t blame yourself for her actions.”

I can,” he said, his thumb stroking my cheek. “I am the Alpha. This is my pack. My responsibility. And I Mix this.”
