CHAPTER HUNDRED-EIGHTYFIVE-1
TRICIA
I could smell her fear. Her anxiety. It was delicious, filling the cell like a rich perfume. I sat on the edge of
the narrow cot, the concrete floor cold and unforgiving beneath my bare feet, and breathed it in. It was a
heady, intoxicating sensation, knowing that I had the power to cause such a visceral reaction.
Hailey and Dominic had thought they were being so careful, so clever. Hiding their little secret from the rest of the pack. But they had underestimated me.
They had always underestimated me.
My mother had warned me not to get caught. To be subtle, to be smart. But there was no fun in that. There was no satisfaction in winning through subterfuge and manipulation.
I wanted them to know that it was me. That it was always me. But without proof, of course. I would play the part of a perfectly innocent vampire, make the pack members see their Luna as a weak, irrational female, and then, when the time was right, I would strike.
But first, I would need to get out of these damn cells.
I had spent the past few days stewing in the darkness, waiting for Dominic to come and make his demands. To try and intimidate me into submission, to bend me to his will. But he had not. And I was
beginning to grow impatient.
“Are you enjoying your stay?”
I looked up, my eyes narrowed against the harsh glare of the fluorescent lights. Dominic stood in the doorway, his muscular frame silhouetted against the dimly lit hallway. His face was unreadable, but I could smell the barely contained anger rolling off him in waves.
“You didn’t have to go to this extent, Dom. You’ve changed so much, you would always protect me from whatever, I was basically your baby sister, how could you lock me up like a criminal? Why can’t you see that this is not how you treat your own people? Do you not trust me anymore?”
“I can’t trust a person who keeps lying,” he said, his voice cold.
“What are you talking about, Dominic?”
“You’re the one who told the entire pack about Hailey’s pregnancy.”
I laughed, the sound harsh and humorless. “Do you really think so lowly of me? I thought you knew me better than that.”
“I know what I saw, Tricia. Your face when we came into the kitchen, it was obvious. You were smug, you were proud. You were happy that you were able to get one up on Hailey, on us.”
“You don’t have to read too much meaning into everything that concerns me, Dom. And this is because

you already don’t trust me, I’m not your enemy. How would I have known that her pregnancy was to be kept a secret? You told your family, but didn’t deem me close enough to tell me such wonderful news? I thought it was a thing of joy and celebration and not some secretive, covert mission. If I had known, I would have never shared the news, not in a million years. Why would you keep something like this from your best friend, Dominic? How did you expect me to react? You should have known that this was going to end badly, why did you even hide it?”
I could feel the tension in the air, the anger and frustration emanating from Dominic’s very being. He was on edge, his wolf just below the surface, ready to break free at any moment.
“You’re lying, Tricia. Stop lying to me.”
