CHAPTER HUNDRED-EIGHTYFIVE-2
“No,” he said, his voice harsh. “No more games. No more lies. Tell me the truth. Did you or did you not intentionally tell the pack about Hailey’s pregnancy?”
“Intentionally? No. Like I said, if I knew that it was a secret, I would have never said anything. Accidentally? Maybe. I overheard some maids talking about it and I just assumed it was common knowledge, you know how the maids are, can’t keep their mouths shut for anything.”
“You’re lying, Tricia.”
“Dominic, you know me, I’m not the kind of person to do something like this, why are you treating me like a criminal? No matter how much you’ve suspected me for evil, your claims have never been proven right.
Why don’t you finally trust me? What more do I have to do to gain your trust? Please, just let me go. I can’t
stay in here.”
I could see the struggle within him, the battle between his wolf and his humanity. His eyes flashed amber, the color of his wolf’s fur, and for a moment, I thought he was going to shift. But then, the moment passed,
and he was back in control.
“I will let you go. But the next time you step into this wing without my permission, I will have no choice but to treat you as an outsider. As a threat.”
“A threat? To what, Dominic?”
“To this pack. To my family.”
“Why would I want to hurt this pack, Dominic? I’m one of you. I might be a vampire, but I’m still a member of this family. My father was one of the founding members of the pack. He would be ashamed of how you’re treating me. If he was here, he would never let you do this. He would never let his only daughter, his pride and joy, suffer like this. If anyone, it’s you, Dominic, who should be ashamed. Ashamed of how you’ve treated your best friend.”
His jaw tightened, his hand clenching into a fist at his side. I could feel the anger, the frustration, the pain.
He didn’t respond to me, just brought out the keys and opened the cell. The door swung open with a creak, and I stepped out, my bare feet on the cold concrete.
“Thank you,” I said, a smile tugging at my lips. “You’re doing the right thing, Dominic. Trusting me. I will never forget this.”
He didn’t respond, just turned and walked away.
“One more thing, Dom,” I called after him, my voice loud enough to echo in the empty hallway. “I would like to at least be invited for dinner once in a while? I understand you don’t want me in your wing, but it gets lonely sometimes, having to eat alone and all. So, do you think Hailey would allow that?”
He stopped, his back still to me. He was silent for a moment, the tension in the air palpable. Finally, he

spoke, his voice low and strained.

“If you can prove to her, that you can be a trustworthy and honest member of this pack, and can be trusted around our baby, then, yes. You can have dinner with us. Until then, stay away.”
He walked away, his footsteps heavy on the concrete floor.
I smiled. I had won.
The game was only just beginning. I would bide my time, be the picture perfect vampire, and then, when
the time was right, I would strike.
And no one would ever see me coming, they would be too blinded by my false kindness, by the charade of a woman who just wanted a place to belong.
