CHAPTER HUNDRED-EIGHTYSIX-1

DOMINIC

The wind was cold against my skin, but it was nothing compared to the icy anger that was coursing through my veins.

Tricia.

How could she?

She was supposed to be my best friend. She was supposed to be a member of this pack. And yet, she was the one who had caused the most trouble, the one who was trying to rip everything I had built apart.

I could feel my wolf growling, restless, his anger matching my own. He wanted blood, he wanted

retribution.

As I ran through the forest, my paws pounding against the earth, I let the anger fuel me.

The scent of the prey was strong, the animal’s fear sending a rush of adrenaline through my body. My wolf reveled in the hunt, in the chase. It was a primal instinct, a deep rooted desire to prove my dominance, my

strength.

And as the animal’s screams echoed in the night air, as its blood soaked the earth, my wolf was satisfied.

I was a predator, and I would not hesitate to defend what was mine.

Hailey.

Our baby.

Our pack.

They were my responsibility, and I would do whatever it took to protect them. All attempts to find out who the killer was had proved futile. The police believed Yasmine had committed suicide, but years of being married to Yasmine, even while under her spell, she was anything but a quitter, a coward. She had been strong, a force of nature.

I was almost certain it was the work of someone within the pack.

But who?

I shifted back into my human form, my body naked and streaked with the blood of the fallen prey. The air was cold against my skin, but the anger still burned hot in my veins.

The forest was quiet, the silence broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind. I breathed in deeply, the fresh air clearing my head.

The hunt had been a release, but the anger still lingered, the frustration and the guilt.

Yasmine’s disappearance from our lives would have been a great relief from her constant evil plots and

the fear of losing my sanity every day, but her sudden death was a red flag, an obvious warning that something was amiss.

There was a lot more going on than I could fathom. A lot more at stake. And the stakes were growing higher with each passing day.

As I walked back to the house, the wind picking up, a storm brewing overhead, I could feel a sense of foreboding hanging over me. Things were going to get worse before they got better. And I had a feeling

that I was going to be the one who would have to fix things.

Because that was my job, as Alpha. To protect the pack. Even from themselves.

Even if it meant sacrificing my own happiness. My mind has been on overdrive for months, and now, my wife was pregnant, she was in her most vulnerable state, and the last thing I wanted was for her to be caught up in all of this.

I needed to get to the bottom of it.

As I walked into the house, the warmth of the central heating a welcome relief from the cold, a voice

called out to me from the shadows.

“Alpha. We need to talk.”

It was Carlos.
