CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETY

HAILEY

“Hurry,” I whispered, my heart shattering.

I knelt down next to Liam’s body, my hands shaking.

“Please, baby,” I pleaded, my tears falling on his pale cheeks.

The ambulance arrived and the paramedics rushed to Liam’s side. They worked quickly, their hands

moving in a blur.

I could barely comprehend what was happening, my mind spinning with shock and grief.

The guards tried to pull me away, but I fought them off, my arms wrapped around Liam’s tiny body.

“Please,” I sobbed, “please, save him.”

The paramedics were talking urgently, their voices muted and frantic.

“His pulse is weak,” one of them said, her voice laced with worry.

“We need to get him to the hospital now,” the other one replied, his hands continuing the compressions.

I clung to Liam, refusing to let go. My heart was breaking, and I could barely breathe. I couldn’t lose him.

“Luna, please, you need to let go,” one of the guards said, his voice gentle but firm. “They need to take

him.”

“No,” I cried, my body trembling.

“Please, Hailley. Let them do their job. They need to help him.”

The other guard helped pry my arms off of Liam’s body, and the paramedics lifted him onto a stretcher

“We’re going to take him to the hospital,” one of the paramedics said, his voice steady and reassuring

“I’m coming with you,” I said, my voice cracking.

“Of course,” the paramedic nodded.

Dominic arrived moments later, his eyes wide with panic. He got into the ambulance and sat next to me The paramedics started hooking up Liam to various monitors and IVS, the beeping and hissing of the machines filling the small space

Dominic took my hand, his face pale and drawn

“What happened?” he asked, his voice thick with emotion

“I don’t know,” I sobbed, the tears streaming down my cheeks ‘We were playing, and the boat fell, and he jumped in to get it. And he just he wasn’t breathing Dominic, I can’t lose him

“You won’t,” he said, his voice a low growl. “We won’t.”

The ambulance sped through the streets, the siren wailing and lights flashing.

I held Liam’s tiny hand, his fingers cold and lifeless.

“Please, baby,” I whispered, my voice broken. “Please come back to me.”

We arrived at the hospital, the ambulance speeding through the parking lot. The paramedics rushed out of

the vehicle, wheeling the gurney inside. Dominic and I followed, our faces etched with worry.

The doctors and nurses were waiting for us, and they quickly took over.

“He’s not breathing,” one of the paramedics said, his voice clipped and urgent. “He was pulled out of the

water. We’ve been doing compressions since.”

“Get him on a ventilator,” the doctor ordered, her eyes scanning the monitors. “And start a round of epi.”

They worked quickly and efficiently, their hands moving in a flurry of activity. I stood there, helpless,

watching them try to save my son.

Dominic’s arm was around my shoulder, his presence a small comfort in the chaos.

“His blood pressure is dropping,” the doctor said, her voice tense.

“Come on, buddy,” one of the nurses said, his hand resting on Liam’s chest. “Stay with us.”

“He’s coding,” the doctor announced, her voice grim.

“We’re losing him,” the nurse said, his eyes fixed on the monitor.

“No,” I whispered, my heart shattering into a million pieces. “No, please.”

The doctors and nurses worked frantically, their hands moving with desperate urgency.

But it was too late.

Liam’s heart stopped. The machines flatlined.

I fell to my knees, my body wracked with sobs.

Dominic knelt beside me, his arms wrapping around me.

“He’s gone,” I sobbed, my body shaking with grief. “He’s gone.”

“I’m so sorry, baby,” he whispered, his own tears falling.

“This can’t be happening,” I cried, my world crumbling around me. “I can’t lose him Please, God, please.”

The doctors and nurses continued working, their efforts futile.

Then suddenly, the heart monitor started beeping again, a faint but steady rhythm

“We found a pulse,” the nurse said, his voice thick with relief. “It’s weak, but it’s there”
