CHAPTER HUNDRED NINETYTWO

CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETYTWO-1

DOMINIC

“You think it’s one of our own?”

“I think it’s someone with a grudge. Someone who wants to weaken me. And what better way to do that than to go after my family?” I said, my mind racing. “They are trying to isolate me, Giovanni. To turn my own pack against me. And they’re using Hailey to do it. They’re trying to break her.”

“Then we have to break them first,” he said, his eyes dark with a cold, hard resolve.

“We will,” I said, my voice a low promise.

I walked out of the office, Giovanni trailing behind me. The pack house was quiet, the only sound was the echo of our footsteps on the marble floor. I could feel the responsibility of my pack on my shoulders, the weight of their safety and well-being pressing down on me. I had been so focused on the external threats that I had let the internal ones fester, and now it was almost too late.

My guards were at their post, standing at attention as I approached. There were four of them, their faces impassive, their bodies rigid with discipline. They were the best of the best, my most trusted soldiers.

“Alpha,” the leader of the guard, a tall, imposing man named Marcus, said, his voice a low rumble.

“Marcus,” I said, my voice cold and hard. “I need to talk to you and your men. In my office. Now.”

He nodded, a flicker of confusion in his eyes, but he didn’t question me. He gestured for his men to follow me, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and concern.

I led them into my office, the air thick with tension. I walked over to the bar and poured myself another glass of whiskey, my hands shaking slightly.

“I’m not going to beat around the bush,” I said, my voice a low growl, my back still turned to them. “I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed in all of you. I entrusted you with the safety of my family, and you failed.”

I turned around, my eyes scanning their faces. They were standing at attention, their bodies rigid, their faces a mask of stoicism. But I could see the fear in their eyes, the dawning realization of what was to

come.

“You were assigned to protect the Luna and my son. You were supposed to be their eyes, their ears. Their shield,” I said, my voice rising with anger. “But instead of protecting them, you stood by and watched while they were harassed. You listened to the lies, the slander, and you did nothing. You let them get away with it. Why?”

“We were trying to de escalate the situation, Alpha,” Marcus said, his voice steady but strained. “We didn’t want to cause a scene, to make things worse.”

“Make things worse?” I scoffed, my anger boiling over. “Things were already worse! My mate was being accused of murder, and you did nothing! You were supposed to shut them down, to make it clear that

disrespecting the Luna would not be tolerated. But you didn’t. You were weak. You were cowards. And because of your weakness, my son almost died.”

I walked over to Marcus, my face inches from his. I could see the sweat beading on his forehead, the slight tremor in his hands.

“He didn’t almost die because of them, Alpha,” he said, his voice a low whisper. “He almost died because

of an accident.”

“An accident that happened on your watch,” I snarled, my wolf snarling inside me. “An accident that could have been prevented if you had been doing your job. If you had been paying attention. But you were too busy trying to ‘de escalate the situation’ to notice a little boy wander off. To notice him fall into a pond. You failed. All of you.”
