CHAPTER HUNDRED NINETYTW

CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETYTWO-2

“You’re all relieved of your duties,” I said, my voice cold and hard. “Effective immediately. Pack your things.

You’re out.”

“Alpha, please,” Marcus begged, his face a mask of despair. “Don’t do this. We’ve served you for years.

We’ve bled for you. Don’t throw us away like this.”

“You threw yourselves away the moment you allowed my mate to be disrespected,” I said, my tone leaving no room for argument. “You had one job. One. And you failed. Now get out of my sight. Before I do something I’ll regret.”

They stood there for a moment, their faces a mixture of shock and disbelief. They couldn’t believe that I was dismissing them, that I was casting them out of the pack they had sworn to protect.

“Get out,” I repeated, my voice a low growl, my wolf threatening to surface.

They finally moved, their bodies stiff with shame and humiliation. They filed out of the office, their heads bowed, their shoulders slumped in defeat. I watched them go, my heart a cold, hard lump in my chest.

I knew I was being harsh, but I had to be. I had to send a message. I had to show my pack that I would not tolerate insubordination, that I would not allow anyone to threaten my family.

Giovanni watched them go, his face unreadable.

“You’re making an example out of them,” he said, his voice a low rumble. “I get it. But is this the right way?”

“It’s the only way,” I said, my voice grim. “I have to show them that I’m not to be trifled with. That I’m not the kind of Alpha who will let his pack be torn apart from the inside. I have to be the monster they think! am. Because the monster gets things done.”

“They’re loyal men, Dom,” he said, a hint of pleading in his voice. “They made a mistake. A big one, I’ll give you that. But to exile them? To cast them out? That’s a death sentence for a werewolf without a pack.”

“They should have thought of that before they let my son almost die,” I said, my jaw clenched tight. “Before they let my mate be slandered. Their loyalty was to me, to this pack. And they broke that loyalty. Now they have to face the consequences.”

I walked over to the window, my gaze fixed on the dark, moonless night. The pack was quiet, the lights in the houses twinkling like stars. But I knew that beneath the surface, there was a storm brewing. A storm of discontent, of rebellion, of betrayal.

“I need to know who’s behind this, Giovanni,” I said, my voice a low whisper. “I need to know who’s pulling the strings. Because this is just the beginning. This is just a taste of what’s to come.”

“I’ll find out,” he said, his voice a low promise. “I’ll find out who’s spreading the rumors, who’s stirring up trouble. And I’ll bring them to you.”

“I know you will,” I said, my mind already racing, planning my next move. “I also need you to put together a

new team. For Hailey. For Liam. For you, Valerie and your son. I need the best of the best. Men who are loyal to me, and only me. Men who will not hesitate to put down anyone who threatens my family”

“Consider it done,” he said, his face grim. “I’ll have a team for you by morning.”

“Good,” I said, my mind already moving on to the next problem. “There’s something else. I need you to look into Yasmine’s death. Again. I know the official report says it was an accident, a case of suicide. But I have a feeling there’s more to it. I have a feeling it’s connected to all of this.”

“You think she was murdered?”

“I think someone is trying to make it look like Hailey had something to do with it,” I said, my mind racing. “1 need to know who Yasmine was talking to, who she was seeing. I need to know if she had any enemies, anyone who would want to hurt her. Or use her death to hurt Hailey.”

“It’ll be done,” he said, his voice a low promise. “I’ll get my best people on it. We’ll find out what really happened to her.”

“And Giovanni,” I said, my voice a low growl. “I want this to be quiet. I don’t want anyone to know what we’re doing. Not yet. I want to catch them by surprise. I want to see the look on their faces when they realize their game is over.”

“Understood,” he said, his face grim. “I’ll be in touch.”

He left, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the office. I was alone, the only sound the soft ticking of the clock on the wall. I poured myself another glass of whiskey, the liquid was a comforting burn in my throat. I could feel the wolf inside me, restless and agitated, pacing in the confines of my mind. He was angry, his rage a hot, searing fire that threatened to consume me.

I walked over to my desk and sat down, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. I needed to get a grip on my anger, to channel it into something productive. I couldn’t let it control me, not now. I had to be smart, to be strategic. I had to be the Alpha my pack needed, the leader my family deserved.

I pulled out my laptop and opened a secure file, one that I hadn’t looked at in a long time. It was a list of all the pack members, their histories, their alliances, their potential weaknesses. I had compiled it myself, over the years, a comprehensive database of every man, woman, and child in my pack. I had always believed in knowing my people, in understanding their hopes, their fears, their motivations. But now, I saw it in a new light. It was a map of the potential threats, a guide to the enemies within.
