After Rejection Divorced Luna Becomes A Famous Doctor (Hailey and Dominic) novel Chapter 256

CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETYTHREE-1

HAILEY

Dominic and I drive to the hospital the next morning, my knuckles white from gripping the door handle. I

didn’t sleep a wink last night, my body thrumming with a nervous energy that I couldn’t seem to shake. I just kept picturing Liam’s pale, lifeless face, the flatline on the monitor, the desperate look in Dominic’s

eyes.

Dominic reaches over and takes my hand, his touch a grounding force amidst the chaos.

“He’s going to be okay, Hailley,” he says, his voice a low, steady rumble. “He’s a fighter. He’s a King.”

I nod, but I can’t bring myself to speak. My throat is tight, my stomach a knot of dread. I’m scared. So

scared. Scared of what we’ll find when we get to the hospital.

My eyes were red and swollen. Dominic had forced me to eat this morning, as I’ve not had an appetite fo

anything but worry.

We pull into the hospital parking lot, the bright morning sun hitting our face. Dominic parks the car, and w walk inside, our footsteps echoing in the sterile silence of the hospital corridor.

We find Liam’s room, and my heart sinks when I see him. He’s so small, so fragile, surrounded by a tangle of wires and tubes. He’s hooked up to a ventilator, a rhythmic whooshing sound filling the room. His face

is pale, his eyelids fluttering in a fitful sleep.

I rush to his side, my hand reaching out to touch his. His skin is cool to the touch, and I can’t help the sob

that escapes my lips. Relief flooded through me as the heart monitor beeped in a steady, reassuring

rhythm. A nurse looks up from her chart and gives me a small, sympathetic smile.

“He had a good night,” she says, her voice soft and gentle. “His vitals are stable. He’s a strong little guy.

“Thank you,” Dominic says, his arm wrapping around my shoulder, pulling me close.

I sit down in the chair next to the bed, my eyes fixed on Liam’s face. I can’t take my eyes off him, my mind replaying the events of yesterday over and over again. The boat, the fall, the frantic CPR, the ambulance ride, the agonizing wait in the hospital.

Dominic stands behind me, his hands on my shoulders, his presence providing a small measure of comfort. I’ve been so worried about our son that the drama with the pack seems like a distant nightmare

But it’s not. It’s still there, a dark cloud hanging over us, a threat that I can’t ignore

“I have to go,” he says, his voice a low whisper “I have some things to take care of But Fil be back!

promise.”

I nod, not taking my eyes off of Liam I know what he has to do. He has to find out who is behind the rumors, who is trying to destroy me, and ultimately, him I also know he fired the guards last night. A part of me felt a surge of guilt, and I made a mental note to talk to him about it later, the knowledge that a

bunch of men who were probably the sole providers of the family, had lost their job because of me. It doesn’t mean that what they did was right, but it was just my humanity that I couldn’t just switch off.

He left after a few minutes.
