CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETYTHREE-2
“Is he going to be okay?” she asked, her gaze fixed on Liam. She had a small teddy bear in her hands, which she placed on the table next to Liam’s bed.
“The doctors seem to think so,” I said, my voice a little cold. “But he’s not out of the woods yet.”
She nodded, her expression sad. “He’s a strong kid. He’ll pull through. He has to.”
We stood there in silence for a few moments, the only sound the rhythmic whoosh of the ventilator.
“I heard about the rumors,” she said, her voice a low whisper. “About Yasmine. I’m so sorry you have to g
through that. It’s disgusting.”
I looked at her, surprised by her show of solidarity. I had expected her to gloat, to take pleasure in my
misery. But instead, she looked genuinely angry on my behalf.
“Who would do such a thing?” she continued, her hands clenched into fists. “Who would be so cruel? You aren’t even capable of hurting a fly, even forgiving those who do you wrong, and they think you would be capable of killing a person. Yasmine and I were not close, we barely spoke, but she didn’t deserve what happened to her. And you don’t deserve this.”
“I don’t know,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “But Dominic is going to find out. He’s going to make ther
pay.”
She nodded, her expression grim. “He should. They can’t get away with this.”
“Hmm.” I said, still suspicious. I wasn’t going to trust her so easily. She has a track record of switching
sides when it is convenient for her.
“Look Hailey, I know I have a bad record with you. And any woman would if they found out that their
husband’s best friend had a thing for their husband. I get it. It’s totally normal for you to see me as an enemy and you have every right to be wary of me. I don’t expect your forgiveness. Or your friendship But I am on your side on this. What they are doing to you is not right. This is not our pack. This is not who we are. Dominic has been a great Alpha to us, he has never shown any form of favoritism, he has treated us all like his family, and this is how some ungrateful people are repaying him. By attacking you and your son It’s not right,”
I didn’t know what to say. Part of me wanted to believe her, to accept her offer of friendship. But another part of me, the part that had been hurt and betrayed one too many times, was screaming at me to be
careful.
I could try to be lenient on her, but I could never fully trust her. She was too unpredictable, too volatile. Too much of a wild card.
“Thank you,” I said, my voice a little softer now. “For your support. It means a lot
“Of course,” she said, a small, sad smile on her face “We’re pack Even if I’m not a werewolf, I consider

myself a part of this pack. You all have shown me what family feels like, something my own kind could never provide me with. Dominic has been like a brother to me. And I will not stand by and watch him or hi family be torn apart by lies and deceit.”
She turned her attention back to Liam, her expression softening. “How are you holding up? With everything? The stress can’t be good for the baby.”
“I’m… trying,” I said, my hand instinctively going to my stomach. “It’s hard. But I have to be strong. For
Liam. For the baby.”
“You are,” she said, her voice a low whisper. “You’re the strongest person I know. You’ve been through so much, and you’re still standing. Still fighting. Don’t let them break you, Hailey. Don’t let them win. But I’m sure Dominic will get to the bottom of this.”
“I know,” I said, my voice a little stronger now. “He will.”
“Good,” she said, her expression hardening with a resolve that I hadn’t seen in her before. “Because they need to pay for what they’ve done. They need to be made an example of. A message needs to be sent.”
She stood there for a moment, her eyes fixed on Liam. Then she turned to me, her expression unreadable
“I have to go,” she said, her voice a low whisper. “But I’ll be back. I’ll check on you and Liam later. And if you need anything, anything at all, you call me. Okay? I mean it.”
I nodded, my mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. I watched her walk away, her slim figure disappearing down the long corridor. I was still wary, still suspicious. But a small part of me, a tiny spark o hope, was beginning to believe that maybe, just maybe, she was telling the truth. That maybe, she was on my side. That maybe, she wasn’t as evil as I thought.
I turned my attention back to Liam, my heart aching with a love so fierce it took my breath away. I would do anything for him. Anything. I would fight for him, I would die for him. And I would not let anyone not
even a pack of traitors, stand in my way.
I held his small hands, my mind a million miles away. The exhaustion from the past twenty four hours was catching up with me, my body aching with a weariness that went bone deep. I must have dozed off, because I was jolted awake by the sound of Liam’s ventilator being switched off
My eyes flew open, and I saw a doctor and a nurse standing by the bed the doctor was a kind looking man with a warm smile and gentle eyes
“Good afternoon,” he said, his voice a low, soothing rumble Tim Dr Evans I’ve been looking after Liam
“Is he okay?” I asked, my heart pounding in my chest
“He’s doing remarkably well,” Dr. Evans said, his smile widening “His oxygen levels are stable, and he’s breathing on his own We’re going to keep him for a few more days for observation, but I’m very optimistic He’s a very lucky little boy’
