CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETYFOUR-2
“I’m going to do what needs to be done,” he said, his voice a cold, hard promise. I’m going to make example of them. I’m going to show this pack what happens when you cross me. When you threate family.
He reached out and took my hand, his touch a grounding force amidst the chaos.
“I need you to be strong, Hailey,” he said, his eyes locking with mine. “This is going to get ugly before gets better. But I need you to trust me. I need you to know that everything I do, I do for us. For our fa For our pack. We are spending our lives together, and the last thing I want is for you to spend it while
name is being tainted for a murder you nevereven committed.”
“I know,” I said, my voice a raw whisper. “I do trust you, Dom. I do. But… please be careful. Her father
powerful man. He has a lot of supporters. You don’t want to start a war you can’t win.”
“A war has already started, Hailey,” he said, his jaw clenched tight. “They started it the moment they v after you. I’m just going to finish it.”
I could see the wolf in his eyes, a wild, untamed fury that was both terrifying and exhilarating. He was
Alpha, the leader, the protector. And he would stop at nothing to keep us safe.
“I’ll be fine,” he said, his voice a low growl. “You just focus on Liam. And on our baby. Let me handle the
rest.”
He leaned in and kissed me, his lips a hard, possessive press against mine. It was a promise, a vow. A
declaration of war.
“I love you,” he whispered, his forehead resting against mine.
“I love you too,” I said, my heart aching with a love so fierce it took my breath away.
He left, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the hospital corridor. I watched him go, my mind was fille
with conflicting emotions. I was scared. I was angry. But I was also proud. So proud of the man I loved,
the Alpha who would stop at nothing to protect his own.
I walked back to Liam’s room, my steps slow and weary. I was so tired, so emotionally drained, I felt like I could sleep for a week. But I knew I couldn’t. Not yet. Not until this was over. My mind was racing. replaying our conversation, the cold fury in Dominic’s eyes. He was a good man, a fair leader But he was also a predator, a wolf who would not hesitate to rip out the throat of anyone who threatened his pack And Cassandra and her father had threatened everything he held dear. They had poked the bear, and now they were about to feel the claws.
I settled back into the chair next to Liam’s bed, my hand reaching out to touch his. His skin was warm now, a healthy, vibrant pink. His chest rose and fell with each steady breath, a reassuring rhythm that filled me with a sense of peace. He was going to be okay. We were going to be okay. I had to believe that
I closed my eyes, letting the exhaustion wash over me. I must have dozed off, because the next thing I
heard was a sweet little voice I opened my eyes and I saw Liam looking at me his eyes clear and
a small smile on his face
“Mommy” he said, his voice a little hoarse, but the sweetest sound had ever heart
it
Tears of joy streamed down my cheeks, my heart swelling with a love so intense almost hurt. He w
awake. He was really awake.
“Hey, sweet boy,” I said, my voice a raw whisper How are you feeling?
“Thirsty,” he said, his little tongue darting out to wet his lips
I pressed the call button for the nurse, my hands trembling with excitement A young nurse with a kin smile and a friendly face came in a few moments later
“He’s awake, I said, my voice choked with emotion “He’s thirsty”
“That’s wonderful news, the nurse said, her smile widening T get him some water. And let Dr. Eva
know. He’ll be thrilled.”
She came back with a small cup of water with a straw, and Liam drank greedily, his little throat working he swallowed. He finished the whole cup, and then he looked at me, his eyes full of questions.
“What happened, Mommy?” he asked, his voice a little stronger now. “Why am I in the hospital?
“You had a little accident at the park, sweetie,” I said, my voice soft and gentle. “You fell into the water
you’re okay now. You’re a very brave boy.”
