CHAPTER HUNDRED-NINETYFIVE-1
HAILEY
The next day, we were able to take Liam home. The hospital discharged him with a strict set of instructions, a bottle of children’s cough medicine, and a stern warning to keep a close eye on him. I promised I would, my heart so full of gratitude I thought it might burst.
Dominic picked us up, a rare, genuine smile on his face. He helped me get Liam settled into his car s buckling him in with a tenderness that belied the hard, ruthless Alpha I knew him to be. He was a para
my mate. A fierce warrior with a gentle soul.
The drive home was quiet, Liam’s even breathing from the back seat a soothing balm to my frayed ner I was exhausted, my body aching with a weariness that went bone deep, but I was also energized, a fi maternal instinct kicking in, a need to protect my cub at all costs.
We pulled up to the house, and I braced myself for what we might find. Would there be protesters? An pack members demanding my head on a spike? I had no idea what Dominic had done after he left the hospital yesterday, but I knew it wouldn’t have been pretty.
But there was nothing. No one. The house was quiet, the grounds empty. It was eerie, unsettling. Like t
calm before a storm.
Dominic carried Liam inside, my son’s head nestled on his shoulder, his small body limp with sleep. He took him straight to his room, laying him gently on his bed, pulling the covers up to his chin. We stood there for a few moments, just watching him sleep, the rise and fall of his chest a steady, reassuring
rhythm.
We had been so scared of losing him, but now he was here, safe and sound. A miracle. A gift.
Dominic took my hand, his touch a grounding force amidst the chaos. “Let’s go to our room,” he said, his
voice a low whisper. “You need to rest.”
I nodded, my body too tired to argue. I followed him out of Liam’s room, my mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. I was so happy to be home, to have Liam safe, but I was also scared of what was waiting for us, of the mess we were in.
We walked into our bedroom, and I stopped in my tracks. The room was filled with flowers, their sweet fragrance filling the air. There were bouquets on the nightstands, on the dresser, even on the floor. Roses, lilies, orchids. A explosion of color and scent.
“What is all this?” I asked, my voice a little breathless
“A peace offering,” he said, a wry smile on his face. “From the pack.”
I stared at him, my mind reeling. “What?”
“After I dealt with Cassandra and her father,” he said, his voice a low growl, “I called a pack meeting. I

reminded them of their loyalty, of their oath. I reminded them that you are their Luna, that Liam is their future Alpha. And I reminded them of the consequences of betrayal.”
He paused, his eyes dark with a cold, hard fury. “I made an example of Cassandra and her father. I stripped them of their rank, of their privileges. I banished them from the pack lands, told them to never show their faces here again. I let it be known that anyone who followed them, anyone who even thought of questioning your authority, would meet the same fate.”
I just stood there, my mind a blank. I didn’t know what to say. I was horrified, but a part of me, a dark, primal part of me, was also satisfied. They had hurt my son. They had tried to destroy me. They deserved to be punished.
“I did what I had to do, Hailey,” he said, his voice softening. “I had to send a message. I had to protect our
