CHAPTER TWOHUNDRED-ONE-1
DOMINIC
“What the fuck do you mean you don’t have anything yet?” I asked, my voice a low, menacing growl.
I was sitting in my office, Carlos standing before me, a look of grim determination on his face.
“We’re questioning the staff, sir,” he said, his voice calm and measured. “But so far, we’ve had no luck.
We’re still working on it.”
“It’s been four fucking days,” I snarled, a wave of fury and frustration washing over me. “Four days since Hailey was poisoned, four days since she almost lost our child, and we have nothing? Fucking nothing?
How the fuck is that possible?”
“They’re all alibied up,” Carlos said, a hint of frustration creeping into his voice. “Everyone we’ve questioned so far has an alibi. But we’ll keep at it. We’re not going to stop until we find something.”
I slammed my fist down on the desk, a low, animalistic growl tearing from my throat. “Damn right you’re not going to stop,” I snarled. “And you better fucking hope you find something. faster,” I growled, my anger rising. “Every second you waste is a second my family is in danger. That’s a risk I cannot take, Carlos.”
“I understand, sir,” he said, his voice cool and confident. “But you have to trust me. I have a lot of experience with these things.”
“You know what? Bring them all here,” I said, my voice a low, deadly growl. “All of them. Every single member of the staff who has access to Hailey. Bring them all here. We’ll fucking question them together.” “Dominic,” Giovanni said, his voice low and urgent. “Do you really think that’s a good idea? You’re already under a lot of stress. If the pack smells the agitation in you, they’ll feed off it. The situation could get out of control. I’ve seen it happen before. They might end up turning on each other, and we don’t need that right now. We need to stay focused, and keep our wits about us. We need to approach this problem methodically, systematically, if we’re going to solve it.”
“Then what do you suggest?” I asked, my voice a low, dangerous rumble.
“I suggest we start narrowing down the list of suspects,” he said, his voice calm and rational. “We can start eliminating people who are highly unlikely to be involved, and focus on those who have a more direct connection to Hailey.”
“No. We are going to do this my way,” I said, my voice firm and unwavering. “And if anyone tries to question me, I’ll tear them to shreds. They better hope they’re innocent. Because if they’re not, they won’t like the outcome. Hailey has beenattacked. In my home. In her own bedroom. And now, our unborn child is in danger. Someone has made a move against me, against my wife, against my family, and I will not tolerate it. If there are traitors amongst us, they will be rooted out. And they will pay. Dearly. Now, get me a list of everyone who has had access to Hailey in the last two months, and bring them here. Now.”
Carlos hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. “As you wish, Alpha.”
PRED ONE T
I leaned back in my chair, a wave of exhaustion washing over me. I was running on fumes, the stress and fear eating away at me. It was a constant, nagging presence in the back of my mind, a dull ache in the pit of my stomach. It was a feeling that I had never experienced before. It was a feeling that I could not shake, a feeling that threatened to consume me.
“Dom,” Giovanni said, his voice a low, urgent whisper.
I looked at him, his expression a mixture of concern and caution.
“What?” I asked, my voice a low, frustrated growl.
“I think you should consider the possibility that it might be the vampires,” he said, his voice careful. “The timing is too convenient. The pack is in turmoil. We’re vulnerable. It’s the perfect opportunity for them to
