Liam and I took a seat at the far end corner of the restaurant, wanting to get as much privacy as we could.

i was nervous and excited for him. This was going to be a big step for my baby, and I didn’t know how to

feel about this.

He was only six years old, and yet he was mature enough to understand the situation. He was finally going to get the life of every kid his age, just that in this case, he would have his mom and dad, but they aren’t

together.

How do we even explain that part to him that his father was married to someone else and that’s why we couldn’t be together? How does a six year old even grasp the concept of that?

I mean, it’s not like we can go into detail about the birds and bees.

My mind was racing, and my thoughts were running wild. What if he doesn’t treat Liam right and is an

asshole father?

What if this all ends badly, and Liam gets hurt in the end. What if Dominic ends up breaking his heart, just

like mine.

I had no idea what to do, or what to say.

And, even though Liam and Dominic were close, the man was a complete stranger to him. A stranger he came to love, a man who he now looks up to.

How was this going to play out?

But for some reasons, I trusted Dominic to not break Liam’s heart. He has fought so much for his affection

and for his love to just throw it away.

He is a changed man, and a part of me is glad, that he is finally stepping up and doing the right thing

Maybe, his fatherly instincts kicked in, or he finally understood his role

Whatever it was, I was thankful.

The waitress came over to our table, and I told Liam to place his order

“I would like one large cheese pizza, and one scoop of chocolate ice cream Please He said, smiling with

his two lost front tooth.

“Alright, and for you ma’am?”

She smiled, and then walked away. I ruffled Liam’s hair, and he leaned closer and placed his head on my

shoulder.

“Mommy?”

“Yes, baby.”

“Can you be my mommy in my next life, too?”

My heart melted at his words, and I smiled. “You already are mine, and will always be. In this lifetime an

next.”

“And you will always be my mommy, even when I grow up, and become a mechanic.”

I laughed at that. Children and their unreal choice of future profession.

“I’ll always be your number one fan, and your number one supporter. No matter what. You are stuck with me, forever.”

Our little bubble was broken when a familiar voice reached my ears.

“Hey.”

I looked up and met the gaze of Dominic, and felt his presence. He stood beside me, and placed his hand on my shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.

“Hi, Uncle Dominic!” Liam waved at him.

“Hi, buddy.” He rubbed his head, and ruffled his hair, just like I do with him. “How’s my little guy doing?” “Good. We bought toys and decorations for Christmas. We even got a gingerbread house. And Mommy promised me we’ll decorate it, and hang mistletoes She even said that we can get a puppy

I watched in awe as Liam slid down from the booth, and went to Dominic. He picked him up, and sat

on his lap.

“Mommy and I loved each other so much a long time ago, we got married and you were born. But, because of a big mistake I made, we got separated. Now, that you and I are spending a lot of time together, we’ve grown closer and you started calling me Uncle Dom. So, what would you think if I told that I am actually your daddy?”

Liam was silent for a while, and the suspense was killing me. I could see that his silence was having t same effect on Dominic, as he too was nervous and anxious.

Seconds passed like a ticking time bomb, and then finally, he smiled.

‘You… You’re my Daddy?”

‘Yeah, buddy. I am. Would you like that?”

Liam jumped out of his lap, and ran towards me. He sat beside me, and tugged at my arm.

‘Mommy! You didn’t tell me, I have a daddy. I have a daddy, Mommy. Uncle Dominic is my daddy Momr we’re a real family.” And suddenly, he started crying, and the tears wouldn’t stop flowing.

I pulled him in my arms, and held him tightly.

He pulled back, and wiped his face. “All the kids in my class have a dad, and I was the only one without one. The boys always make fun of me and call me names, and even the girls sometimes

He threw himself at Dominic, and the man’s face broke into a big smile.

I’ve seen the way he has been with Liam, and even though we haven’t spoken in months, it was the This was the widest I’ve ever seen him smile, and he looked so different. So much carefree and you like the years were slowly coming off of his body, and his face.

This was the happiest I have ever seen him, and I could tell that he was really happy.

I gave him a small nod, blinking away the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes. Nothing prepared me for this moment, and it was more than I could ever hope for.

Seeing Dorninic being a father, something I’d always wished for, felt like a dream come true. It makes

wonder how he would have been with newborn Liam, seeing his face for the first time, his first tooth, first steps, his first word.

I was glad that the last couple of months happened, and it was all for the best.

I couldn’t be happier, and I could see how much it meant to Dominic to finally be here, and have this
