After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 366

Alice stared at the pile of photos scattered across the floor. Her head felt like it was about to explode. She picked up one of the pictures, hands shaking. It was the shot of her, Garnett, and Shirley at the airport. Her heart dropped.

“He’s your daughter’s real father. A deadbeat with no job. And you, Alice, you’ve been using my money to support him. That’s not all, though—” Nestor cut himself off as he pulled out his phone and dialed. “You can come in now,” he said quietly.

Alice had no idea who he’d called, but it didn’t take long for her to find out. Heavy footsteps echoed behind her. Two police officers walked in, their faces completely serious.

“Alice, we received a report you tried to poison your husband. We need you to come with us for questioning,” one of them said.

It felt like the world crashed down on her. She spun around, staring at Nestor, desperate. “Nestor, what are you saying? How could I ever try to hurt you?”

Nestor ignored her and looked at the housekeeper. “Alice keeps a bottle of powder in the kitchen. Which one is it? Bring it out for the police.”

The housekeeper turned pale. She hurried into the kitchen and started searching through the spices. From all the way in the back, she pulled out a small bottle and brought it out. “This is the powder Alice always told me not to touch. She broke the last bottle and replaced it with this one.”

She hesitated, then added, “I’ve seen Alice put this powder in your tea, Mr. Blair. I thought it was some kind of health supplement.”

Alice snapped. She practically screamed at the housekeeper, “Leonie, if you say another word, I’ll make sure you regret it!” She turned to Nestor, her eyes wild. “Nestor, I never tried to hurt you. That’s just a herbal powder. It’s harmless, I swear!”
