Aeliana broke my heart.

I trusted her, not once have I suspected her of cheating on me but she did. She made a fuss about me being at the hospital with Audrey when she was the one betraying our bond and making a fool out of me in front of the entire world.

I can still hear her cries as I dash down the hallway with Rowan hot on my trail, trying to get me to talk to him, but I’ve said enough for today. My wolf is raging. My mate was with other men, she kissed them as she does me, she let them put their hands on her. Rowan stops calling after me when Danielle screams for him. It’s the second word that sends me running right behind him. When she yells help, her voice is filled with concern and not pain.

The sight of Aeliana on the floor welcomes me. “What happened?” I ask, already feeling at fault for her state.

“She was choking on air,” Danielle says, her words lacking confidence. “I tried to get her to breathe, but she was calling for you.”

I can feel her breathing on my finger so I scoop her into my arms and take her upstairs while Rowan volunteers to find me a doctor. I put her down the second I get to her bed, not trusting my hands around her. She kisses another man-men. I can’t get the pictures out of my head, it’s all I see, and it fuels my rage.

“She’s ours.” My wolf says, “She’s hurting. She hurt us.”

Her eyes flutter open with a gasp, like she was choking in the abyss too. She looks at me, sitting up instantly. It takes me less than a second to make sure she’s alright so I can walk away. “I’m sorry, Kingston please…don’t walk away from me.”

I have to.

But she moves pretty fast, meeting me by the door, her eyes already gleaming with tears again. “Kingston, please.”

“I don’t know what to do Aeliana,” I confess. I’m prepared for just about any and every situation possible, but this? I have no idea how to handle it, it wasn’t supposed to happen to us.

“Kiss me,” she swallows. “You said a kiss makes everything okay, right?”

I slowly shake my head, “Not this.”

“I was wrong,” she chokes out, the tears finally falling. I look away, staring over her head, but I still catch sight of her tears in my peripheral vision. “I wouldn’t do anything like this.”

“You already did.”

“Because I thought you did to me,”

“So that made it okay?” I scoff. I know how petty she is but this was a step too far, she should have never doubted me from the start. “Two wrongs?”

“I was drunk, and I know it doesn’t make this okay but I’m very sorry.” She sobs, “Forgive me, I don’t want anyone else, King. I love you, nobody else, it’s just you.”

I walk away from her again, trying to get away from her as fast as possible, but she’s hot on my trail, matching my strides by jogging behind me. “Stop,” she cries out, pulling my arm.

“I’m hurt Aeliana, and you’re not making it easy on me by crying in front of me.”

She sniffs, blinking back the tears, and again, turning her tears off. I know they’re real, but how does she do that? How does she stop feeling in a split second? “What can I do?”

“Leave me alone,” I snap, my tone rough, biting.

“I can’t do that,” she shakes her head. “Anything but that, I don’t want to be away from you, don’t shut me out please.”

I need a minute to calm down, I’ve already screamed at her twice and I hate it. My wolf is spiralling, demanding I remind her she’s ours, but I fight the feral urge to mark her so bad no one will ever doubt who she belongs to. I don’t like the way my hold on my emotions is slipping because I can’t focus on anything, but those pictures. She’s supposed to be mine, we’re bonded and I shouldn’t have to worry about her having another man replace me, not in bed.

I try to walk away once again but she wraps her arms around me, clinging to me. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have kept it from you, I wanted to tell you, but I didn’t know how you’d take it.”
